“Lights Out” star, showrunner dish on remaining episodes, Season 2

UPDATE: FX announced on March 24 that it will not go forth with a Season 2 of Lights Out, making its April 5 episode its season, and presumably series finale. By Stacey Harrison The decision is still out on whether FX’s hard-hitting boxing drama Lights Out will live to see a Round 2 next season, but the good news is there are still three episodes left in ex-champ Patrick “Lights” Leary’s quest to regain his title. Tonight’s episode, “Rainmaker,” gives Lights a scary glimpse at his possible future with guest-star David Morse playing one of Lights’ old opponents, a broken-down, […]

Marvel-ous highlights from C2E2

Well, the second edition of C2E2 was a rousing success in bringing a bit of Comic Con craziness to the Midwest. Chicago’s McCormick Place was buzzing with fans looking to get up close and personal with some of their favorite personalities from the geek world. I trawled the floor on Saturday, sitting in on some of the convention’s biggest events, as well as getting lots of one-on-one time with some heavy hitters. Here are the highlights of the day: * Thor star Chris Hemsworth shared some goodies with the eager crowd, including a demonstration of his vocal pipes by yelling […]

“Justified”: 10 things to love about Season 2

By Stacey Harrison Doesn’t it seem like Justified has been around for more than just one season? I suppose that speaks to the immediate attraction to seeing Elmore Leonard — who’s been writing great books for more than 40 years – finally done right on television. The new season of Timothy Olyphant as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, who works to clean up his native Harlan County, Ky., begins tonight at 10pm ET. We’ve previewed the first three episodes,  had a chat with executive producer Graham Yost, and come up with 10 things (in no particular order) to love about Season […]

“Lights Out” is a KO for FX

By Stacey Harrison It often holds true that a fighter’s toughest bout comes after he hangs up his gloves. That’s certainly the case with Patrick “Lights” Leary (Holt McCallany), a former heavyweight boxing champ who is the subject of FX‘s new drama Lights Out, which premieres tonight. Leary lost his title by a controversial decision following a particularly brutal fight, and retired immediately afterward because of an ultimatum laid down by his wife (Catherine McCormack). While he’s happy in his mansion taking care of his three daughters, financial troubles brought on by bad investments — including a gym he operates […]

“Sons of Anarchy” recap: Na Triobloidi

By Stacey Harrison The title of the season finale is an Irish term for “the troubles,” referring to the longstanding ethno-political conflicts that plagued the two Irelands and England through much of the latter half of the 20th century. In other words, brace yourself. This Chinese box of a wrap-up may have one too many coincidences and contrivances, but I’ll be damned if you’re not too busy picking your jaw up off the floor to get too upset. There is no cheating here — blood is frequently, shockingly, spilled — and it all ends with one of the more shocking […]
