Golf’s FedExCup tees of with the Barclays on Golf Channel, CBS

The beauty of the FedExCup Playoffs is it brings the best golfers in the world together in a format similar to college basketball’s NCAA Tournament. The main difference, of course, is that there is a $10 million prize for the last golfer standing and another $25 million to split amongst the other competitors. Yeah, you could say there’s a lot on the line. The top 123 ranked golfers will convene in Farmingdale, New York, Thursday for the first round of the four-tournament event. The Barclay’s is the first of the four tournaments, and only those ranked in the top 100 on […]

PGA Championship Preview: Tournament will have a European feel

If some of the European golfers participating in this week’s PGA Championship appear to feel at home on the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina, it’s probably because it plays much more like something you’d find on the other side of the pond. With the way the course is designed, 10 holes run alongside the Atlantic Ocean and are subjected to inconsistent winds. In fact, it’s said that a player’s club selection on the par-3, 17th hole can range anywhere from a 7-iron to a 3-wood depending on the direction and gusts of the wind. British Open Preview: Can Tiger fend off the Europeans?

Raise your hand if you had Webb Simpson winning the U.S. Open last month and Bubba Watson donning the green jacket after this April’s Masters. Chances are there aren’t many honest people raising their hand right now, and therein lies what is so great about professional golf today. With the British Open teeing off tomorrow morning, there are many more questions than answers about who will walk away with the prestigious Claret Jug. Similar to the U.S. Open, the British Open is oftentimes more about about survival than simply sheer talent. The golfers who best navigate the challenging Royal Lytham […]

Where to watch the U.S. Open golf tournament

Rory McIlroy gave golf fans flashbacks to the days of Tiger Woods’ dominance with his remarkable victory at last year’s U.S. Open. McIlroy became the youngest U.S. Open winner since Bobby Jones in 1923, and he shot all four rounds in the 60s and finished 16 under par for the tournament. World No. 1 McIlroy will try to repeat at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, where he’ll be challenged by Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Hunter Mahan, Steve Stricker, Woods (now a favorite thanks to his recent win at The Memorial) and Masters champion Bubba Watson. ESPN and NBC air […]
