Dance Moms Season 4 episode 8 recap: Come On Over For Whine And Cheese

The Face of the Abby Lee Dance Company has changed, Dance Moms nation. Kelly’s, Paige’s and Brooke’s are officially gone by virtue of an “official letter” from Abby’s new deer-in-the-headlights receptionist (well and also, you know, those pesky lawsuits). Kalani’s and Kira’s are here to stay, even though we’re not technically supposed to know that yet … even though Abby said it on The View a month ago. Life was so much easier when I was willful in my ignorance. Kalani is also the top of the pyramid, I’m guessing by virtue of being the only one whose last name […]

So, about those Dance Moms lawsuits …

Yes, Dance Moms nation, now that we’ve all seen the Dance Moms “Battle in the Bronx” on last Tuesday’s episode, Kelly Hyland has done something official about it. In response to the lawsuit filed by Abby Lee Miller following the pair’s November bitey-slappy-hair-pully altercation in New York, Kelly spent Valentine’s Day filing her own $5 million complaint in L.A. Superior Court, alleging non-payment, unlawful working conditions for the children and a litany of other abuses. Both Abby Lee and the show’s parent company Collins Avenue Entertainment are named as respondents. As first reported by TMZ and subsequently fleshed out by […]

Dance Moms recap Season 4 episode 7: Bite Me

Couple things right out of the gate, Dance Moms nation. Today’s recap will be screen-capture-free, because the events of its last twenty minutes are currently a matter of litigation in the New York City courts, so no press screeners were made available. So much the better if you ask me. There’s not much that happened this evening that I’d care to commemorate in pictures or in words. In light of the weekend’s news of Maryen Lorrain Miller’s death, I was really hoping we might have something, anything I could write positively about — even though I knew better from the […]

Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller loses mom Maryen Lorrain Miller to cancer

Maryen Lorrain Miller, the elegant, soft-spoken mom of Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, February 8. The sad news was posted on the Abby Lee Dance studio web site, after Abby Lee Miller took to Instagram to announce her mother’s passing. The tribute on the ALDC web site reads as follows: Maryen Lorrain Miller, the lady who started it all, was born on August 6, 1927 to Terrance & Marion McKay in Greenfield, PA. She graduated from St. Rosalia’s Catholic School where Martha Davies opened the doors to dance. At 18, she relocated […]

Dance Moms recap Season 4 episode 6: The New Adventures of Old Chloe

Welcome back, Dance Moms nation. Did everyone have a nice week? Did everyone recover from the delicious emotional overload that was At Last? Did everyone see my near miss at a job offer in the comments section of last week’s blog? (Psssst, Abs, if that actually was you, have your people call my people about the sequel. Just give me a couple minutes to, you know, get some people.) • RELATED: Abby Lee Miller loses mom Maryen Lorrain Miller to cancer On with the show. We start out in the studio, where Abby’s got a little mall-bang thing going on […]

The Gabby Douglas Story: Lifetime movie is all about the feel good

Fair warning: if reach-for-the-stars platitudes drive you nuts, The Gabby Douglas Story is not the film for you. Lifetime’s biopic about the spunky 2012 Olympic all-around gymnastics champ, which premieres Saturday night at 8/7CT, is virtually paved with them. But if you’re a fan of Douglas, or you can’t wait for the Sochi games for a heartwarming story of Olympic perseverance — and especially if you long for something genuinely uplifting on your TV — The Gabby Douglas Story is a gold-medal winner. Douglas and her mother Natalie Hawkins executive produced the film, which stars Sydney Mikayla  and Imani Hakim as the adolescent and teenage […]

Dance Moms Season 4 episode 5 recap : The Next Right Thing

Let me just get this out of the way right now, Dance Moms Nation, since I have been doing a horrible job of keeping you current on all of the legal crap between Abby and Kelly (because I could not care less about all of the legal crap between Abby and Kelly). I actually did inquire into Abby’s reported engagement — because I think Dance Moms Wedding Special would breathe some kind of new life right into me where Dance Moms is concerned. OK, so I actually asked the show’s saintly publicist Theresa if she had, you know, any bridesmaid […]

Dance Moms Season 4 episode 4 recap: Party Poopers

Hi, honeys! I’m home! No idea what I missed in last week’s actual Dance Moms episode — but it looks like maybe a new opener and Payton landing herself on crutches are top of the heap? Looks like we were also the overall high-scoring group, but outside of that, things were no good. As in “It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye” not good, according to Abby. Someone lost an eye?! Maybe I need to watch after all, because Abby doesn’t explain. Or you guys could tell me what happened in the comments section below. That would […]
