Terrific Teens & Historic Heroes: Sprout Celebrates Black History Month

As part of its celebration of Black History Month, Sprout is introducing kids to four inspiring teens who are making massive differences in their communities and beyond. Every Monday throughout the month of February, the network for preschoolers will air vignettes that celebrates an African American from history in a fresh and exciting way. Each historical figure is paired with a modern, and similarly-talented teen who is making his or her own impact on today’s society. Maya Penn is amazing. That’s the impression I got of the young artist/designer/animator/philanthropist after we chatted about her latest honor. Maya is one of four inspiring teens chosen my Sprout to profile as part of the preschool network’s celebration Black History Month. Sprout has a new treat for your little Valentine with its newest original series for preschoolers, Ruff-Ruff, Tweet and Dave. The series premieres Feb. 14, and chronicles the animated adventures of three lovable best friends: Ruff-Ruff a lovable, instinctive pup, Tweet, a cautious, thoughtful bird, and Dave, an imaginative, quirky panda. TCA: Sprout Network blooms for its 10th Birthday

Someone is about to turn 10. That’s a big number for a network geared towards preschoolers. And to celebrate its first decade, Sprout has a few new shows. President of Sprout Network Sandy Wax announced new changes and new programming for the network as it moves from a library-based network, (reruns of Barney and Caillou) to a network that can also offer original programming. “Astroblast!” Launches on Sprout

Get ready, parents of space-obsessed preschoolers, a new show that is perfect for little astronauts launches this weekend on Sprout, the first 24-hour preschool network. On Saturday, July 12, the network will blast off with the launch of their new original animated series, Astroblast! The show takes preschoolers and their parents on hilarious adventures through outer space, following a cast of animal characters including Comet, Halley, Sputnik, Radar, Jet and Sal the Octopus.
