Comic-Con 2013: “Black Sails” screening

As promoters dressed in full pirate garb — ranging from Jack Sparrow wannabes to some who looked like Captain Morgan mascots who had mistakenly wandered in from a neighboring bar — peppered the crowd with the constant, loud refrain of “BLACK SAILS!!!” the crowd at San Diego’s Reading Cinemas anxiously awaited a unique world premiere event. Not only was the crowd of about 400 going to see the first episode of Starz’s highly anticipated pirate series Black Sails — with several cast members and producers on hand — but there was an extra surprise as well. Set up in front […]

Spartacus finale date, time, TV channel, preview and more!

Spartacus: War of the Damned: “Victory” Friday, April 12 Starz, 9pm ET So it all comes down to this for our favorite peaceful Thracian turned gladiator turned revolutionary leader. Spartacus: War of the Damned ends its season — and the series — with a violent, epic (and epically violent) hour that pits the fierce warriors of the slave revolt in ultimate battle against the vast armies of Marcus Crassus and his Roman legions. The episode is called “Victory,” but that’s a term that surely requires some Obi Wan Kenobi-certain-point-of-view-type of thinking. *****SPOILER ALERT***** There is a whole lot of slo-mo […]

Interview with Tom Riley Da Vinci’s Demons

Interview with Tom Riley Da Vinci’s Demons Da Vinci’s Demons, a Starz original series airing Fridays beginning April 12, introduces us to a young, swashbuckling Da Vinci tortured by his gift of intelligence. Art history class would have been so much more interesting if only we were schooled on the young Leonardo da Vinci, a sexy, smart, complicated, arrogant outcast — a vision that’s rarely conjured when you think of the Italian Renaissance man and his masterpieces. Cowriter of The Dark Knight trilogy and this summer’s Man of Steel, David S. Goyer shatters any stereotypes you may have had of […]

“Spartacus: War of the Damned” brings Starz’s strange, sad saga to a close

The strange saga of Spartacus — both the epic battles portrayed onscreen and the upheaval and tragedies off it — comes to a close with a third and final season beginning Friday on Starz. Spartacus: War of the Damned (which several cast members say is a wholly appropriate title) follows the former gladiator as he leads a growing slave rebellion against the Roman Empire. As history points out, the Romans resorted to sending out famed General Crassus to once and for all quash the revolt, making it Spartacus’ last stand. Liam McIntyre returns as Spartacus, and says viewers will notice […]

First photos from upcoming Starz adventure drama “Da Vinci’s Demons”

Today, Starz released these first-look photos from its upcoming adventure drama series Da Vinci’s Demons, premiering on the network in Spring 2013. Da Vinci’s Demons is written by David S. Goyer, the co-writer of Batman Begins and writer of next year’s Man of Steel. Goyer is also serving as showrunner on the series. While the launching point of the character in this series is in real-life — the “Da Vinci” of the title is Leonardo Da Vinci — creative license certainly appears to take over, as the plot synopsis of the program tells us that it is a historical fantasy, […]

Sanaa Lathan on Season 2 of Starz’s “Boss”

It’s a good deal more frantic and there are more people milling about than when I last visited the set of Starz‘s Boss. Mario Van Peebles is in the director’s chair, and neither Kelsey Grammer nor Troy Garity are anywhere to be seen. The focus of the scene being shot at the moment is Sanaa Lathan, as she does take after take of showing disgust at some as-yet-unknown plot turn playing out on a phantom television, turning around and exiting in search of a drink. Lathan is a newcomer to the acclaimed series this season, playing Mona Fredericks, a woman whom […]

Comic-Con 2012: “Spartacus: War of the Damned” sneak peek

One of the more surprising announcements in TV this year was that the highly successful Starz series Spartacus would be ending after next season. So that makes the cast and crew’s appearance at Comic-Con in San Diego all the more important. I’ll be speaking with several folks involved with Spartacus: War of the Damned this week, including Spartacus himself, Liam McIntyre. Starz shared this behind-the-scenes video to give fans a taste of what to expect when the show premieres in January.
