“American Dad!” recap: “Big Stan on Campus”

A bit of the reality of our current government and law enforcement came into play in last night’s new episode of American Dad!, called “Big Stan on Campus.” Director Bullock (Patrick Stewart) gives his CIA team the bad news that their budget needs to be cut (but he won’t give up his ornate “hover-throne” that he is seen using to get around, naturally) and that he needs one of them to take what he calls a “vacation” (actually an unpaid furlough). Stan agrees before fully understanding what it is, and then must find a way to earn some money during […]

“American Dad!” recap: “Scents and Sensei-bility”

Despite its title being a play off a Jane Austen novel title, last night’s episode of American Dad! was unrelated to any of her classic works (sorry Austen fans). The main plot was more akin to The Karate Kid, as Steve and Snot decide to take up karate after witnessing supposed fellow nerd — new kid Martin — beat the crap out of an unsuspecting bully (with Martin being told to “FINISH HIM!” with the Mortal Kombat-style voice of a fellow student, which becomes a running joke in the episode, with this kid speaking everything in the tone of that […]

“American Dad!” recap: “CIAPOW”

Last week’s season premiere of American Dad! on its new network, TBS, topped basic cable entertainment programs for the evening — delivering 2.5 million viewers between its TBS premiere and its encore presentation on Adult Swim. The episode also was tops for basic cable entertainment in key demos, drawing in over 1.6 million adults 18-49 and 1.2 million adults 18-34, according to a TBS release. We’ll see if the new episodes continue to draw similar numbers, of if people tuned in that first night to see if the show may be “edgier” than its FOX incarnation. As I wrote about […]

“American Dad!” begins its new season on TBS

You may have noticed that Seth MacFarlane’s animated comedy series American Dad! is not in its former slot as part of FOX’s Sunday night lineup. Starting Oct. 20, the series is moving to its new home on TBS. The network has been showing reruns of American Dad! for years, and it will now be showing first-run episodes starting with the Oct. 20 season premiere. TBS’ sister network Adult Swim, which already airs reruns of American Dad!, will continue doing so. According to TBS, the Oct. 20 premiere will air on TBS at 9pm ET/PT, and then on Adult Swim at […]

2014 MLB Wild Card game TV schedule

A little bad blood might be good news for Major League Baseball’s postseason. How about a Beltway World Series between the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Nationals? Or a Freeway Series between the L.A. Dodgers and L.A. Angels? Or another Bay Bridge Series between the Oakland A’s and the San Francisco Giants (this time without the earthquake)? TV coverage of the postseason shuffles a bit under MLB’s new eight-year, $12.4 billion TV rights deal with partners ESPN, FOX and TBS. The playoffs begin Sept. 30 with the AL wild-card game on TBS. ESPN will air an MLB playoff game for […]

20th anniversary of “Friends” celebrated with episode marathon, Central Perk replica

On Sept. 22, 1994, the sitcom Friends began its 10-season run on NBC, eventually launching its cast — Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer — into stardom, winning a few Emmys, inspiring the “Rachel” haircut among some women, and ensuring itself of an extended life in reruns. One of the networks that shows the most Friends reruns, TBS, will be celebrating the show’s 20th anniversary this Sept. 22 — 20 years to the day of its premiere — with a 20-episode marathon from 10am-8pm ET/PT. The marathon will consist of episodes chosen by […]

TBS celebrates “Seinfeld” 25th anniversary with week of best episodes

It isn’t hard to find the classic sitcom Seinfeld airing somewhere; it still runs in syndication, and TBS broadcasts a number of episodes on most nights. But the week of June 30-July 5, TBS will narrow down its airings to 25 of the series’ most popular and acclaimed episodes, in honor of the comedy’s 25th (!!) anniversary (Seinfeld first aired on TV, as The Seinfeld Chronicles, on July 5, 1989). TBS will air four of the best Seinfeld episodes each weeknight from June 30-July 4, culminating on the 25th anniversary of the show’s first broadcast, with five episodes on July […]

Jodi Long Shares Details Of Sullivan And Son, Season 3

For fans of TBS’ hilarious comedy, one might not expect tough-as-nails Ok Cha Sullivan to be known for her laugh. On the show, she has a difficult relationship with everyone and an opinion about everything.  But for the woman who plays the character her laugh is one thing you notice immediately. Jodi Long, who plays Ok Cha and I had a lovely chat while she made herself a cup of tea before heading into the set where Sullivan and Son is taping its third season. I asked Long if her cast mates were bawdy bar men and she unleashed her […]
