True Detective Season 2 star Taylor Kitsch: “I’ve never walked away from something as excited and proud as I am of this”

Praise and pity for True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto. The first season of his mega-award-winning HBO drama was widely (and justifiably) trumpeted as unlike anything else in TV history, luring Matthew McConaughey back to the small screen and blowing viewers’ and critics’ minds with a spine-tingling mystery that turned water-cooler talk into an impromptu psychology class. So how would the guy handle Season 2? The short answer: Move the series to California and assemble an even larger A-list cast into an intricate tale of cops, career criminals and politics that, like Season 1, unravels from a single, strange murder. Colin Farrell had said recently that he was on board to star in True Detective Season 2, and he was evidently not joshing — HBO confirmed today that Farrell and Vince Vaughn will headline the new season of the HBO hit. Much speculation and online chatter has centered on whether Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) or Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) are somehow connected to the Yellow King in this eight-episode, eerie chiller, but that would be way too typical for series’ screenwriter Nic Pizzolatto and not the core of the story — which is really about who Cohle and Hart truly are. McConaughey actually told Channel Guide’s Lori Acken at the start of the […]

Interview: Matthew McConaughey talks HBO’s True Detective

Ask Matthew McConaughey what convinced him to tackle his first ever television series, HBO’s True Detective, and he offers up two things: the sheer power of screenwriter Nic Pizzolatto’s scripts and the chance to start some drama with his longtime pal Woody Harrelson … if only onscreen. “This is the third time we’ve worked together and it’s the first time not in a comedy, which I was really excited about,” says McConaughey. “The thing about Woody and I is that personally we’re such good friends that if he starts something, I end it. If I start something, he ends it. […]
