“The Kill Point” Countdown: Part 1

I was in Pittsburgh visiting the set of a new Spike action/drama series called The Kill Point, premiering July 22. To prove that I was actually there, here’s a random photo I took of director Steve Shill gesticulating wildly at star John Leguizamo.

The Kill Point is about a group of Iraq War veterans who rob a bank in downtown Pittsburgh. It doesn’t go well, and turns into a hostage situation and a standoff with police. Leguizamo (we’ve long since forgiven him for House of Buggin’) plays the gang leader and Donnie Wahlberg (we’ve long since forgiven him for NKOTB) plays a hostage negotiator.

I spent two days on the set, and did interviews director Shill, cowriter and co-producer Todd Harthan, and actors Leguizamo, Frank Grillo, Jeremy Davidson and a few others. I talked to Wahlberg on the phone a few days later. Plus, I got some interesting stories from the set medic.

Check back here for interviews, photos and even some videos from the set, and see our special On The Set section in the July edition of Channel Guide Magazine.

Coincidentally, Ryan was in Pittsburgh at exactly the same time. He scouted the Pirates vs. Astros game at PNC Park. He’d like to know if anyone in the Pittsburgh area could stop at Giant Eagle and pick up the rest of the Pirates Hall of Famers commemorative coin collection for him (he already has Honus Wagner). He’d totally be your BFF. [Update: So it seems that the coins are given away at Pirates’ Tuesday home games, not sold at Giant Eagle as previously thought. Still, if anybody in the Steeltown area wants to hook a brotha up, the BFF offer still applies.]
