The Beginning Of The End On Project Runway

by WindUpDoll

We get Heidi ‘introducing’ the Fashion Week challenge. Tim comes out on the runway and tells them that he will be checking in on the contestants. They’re going to have a toast before heading off to the Fashion Week. Christian is 21 and going to Fashion Week. That’s FIERCE!

Tim first visits Christian. He lives in New York, so Tim doesn’t have far to go. Tim, for some weird reason, drives. If Saturn wasn’t sponsoring the show, you know he’d be taking the subway. We get to see his apartment, which is New York cozy, and pictures of his childhood. First he did hair, and then he went to design school in London, which brought him to Project Runway. Tim takes a look at his collection so far. He encourages Christian to be sure he’s not going TOO far. His finale piece is a pair of feather pants. Tim’s parting words are ‘work hard, think harder.’

Jillian is also in NYC. She’s got a huge place, and her pieces are displayed in the living room. She’s got this beautiful jacket with great detailing, of course. She was inspired by the museum challenge, so she’s using images of armor as her inspiration. She decides to introduce Tim to her family on Long Island. Jillian’s mom saw a psychic that told her one of her children would be famous. Jillian has taken that ball and is running with it. No pressure kid, no pressure.

Rami is up next and FINALLY Tim gets to travel as Rami’s in L.A. Rami’s mother was Miss Jordan in her day, but she died when Rami was 5. He’s close to his stepmother. He hid his talents from his family for years, since he thought it wasn’t masculine. Rami has a huge space to work in. His theme is Joan of Arc. Tim loves one of Rami’s looks, but feels like Rami needs to pull back a little bit to bring some softness to his work.

Chris, of course, is also in New York. He’s a lucky New Yorker, since he has a little bit bigger space than Jillian or Christian. He’s concerned about making the transition from costume designer to fashion designer. His most provocative piece actually uses human hair to trim his garment. Tim wants the hair gone. I’m wondering if Chris put the hair on to freak Tim out. Tim says Chris has been living in the monkey house, meaning he’s been living with the look for too long. Chris takes Tim to meet his New York family. One of Chris’ friends built a whole crapload of stuff into his apartment — it’s over-the-top Versailles. We get to see Chris as a kid, and a lot of Chris in drag. He also tells the story of getting ‘arrested’ by someone for being the best designer on Project Runway. I love him to death, and want him to show for real.

It’s 5 days until Fashion Week. Rami has arrived with a boatload of luggage. It’s got to be a pain for the 3 New Yorkers to move into a hotel in the same city. They’re apparently in a new hotel, as Chris checks out the gigantic shower. In a bit of cruelty, Project Runway decides to house Chris and Rami in the same apartment. They’re drinking Bud Light, which disappoints me. Miller, people. Oh, apparently Rami or Chris will move into Jillian and Christian’s apartment once one of them is chosen.

They enter their workspace and there are only 3 work tables. I’m wondering if they’re still setting these 2 boys up. Jillian’s wearing this hat with a huge lopsided thing that looks like an ear with elephantitis. It’s not right. Tim tells them that today’s the day one will be Aufed. They’ve got 3 hours to fit & style their models. There’s a Bluefly.com shoe wall to avoid the whole shoe controversy from the first season.

The guys are running around getting crap out of bags. Christian notes that Chris’ looks are very interesting. Yes, there is hair on them. Chris tells Christian to brush them. I’m hoping you’re making a wise gamble, Chris.

Heidi’s wearing leather leggings with periwinkle shoes for the final runway challenge between Rami and Chris. Ick. Rami’s items are up first, and I know jack squat about fashion, but it seems a little disjointed. Maybe it’s because I like Chris, but I really like his stuff. It seems more put together and fits better. I even like the hair because of the way it lays down, instead of poufing up like animal fur. He tells the judges that he used human hair. He’s kind of creeped out the judges, but they’re impressed. Michael Kors says one dress is a velvet condom because of how tight it is. When asked why he should go to fashion week, Chris says that he brings a new perspective from outside of the fashion world. And that his head might explode.

From the way the judges are talking, it seems like the judges are being a little tougher on Rami. When asked why he should go to fashion week, Rami says that it’s been his dream since he was 6 years old.

The judges are deliberating, with positive and negative things to say about each contestant. They bring Rami and Chris back out to torture them a little bit. One will be in, and one of them will be out, but it has been a very difficult decision. Heidi and co. have a hard job, folks. Rami is in. Well, poop on you, Heidi. Not that it was unexpected, but come on, take a chance on the fun guy. He’s gracious in defeat, but thankfully he will be showing anyway. We just won’t get to see him on TV. Chris reminds Tim that he’s been through this before. He leaves us with his great laugh.

Next week it’s all over.
