Scariest Scary Movie #25 – 28 Days Later…

28 Days Later… (2002, Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Christopher Eccleston)

Okay, Jim. Got some bad news.

Quick Plot: A dangerous virus called the Rage is unintentionally released into the world, infecting the population with a permanent state of murderous rage. 28 days later, Jim wakes up from a coma and stumbles onto the desolate streets of London. He soon discovers other survivors and they make their way out of London toward a military encampment. But once there, they realize that the infected are the least of their worries.

Scariest Scene: The spookiest scene is when Jim is walking around the empty streets, with no idea what’s happened. He is just a guy, waking up, and finding everything has changed. He passes by familiar landmarks, once bustling with activity, now deserted except for old newspapers littering the ground. Then the music builds up and he walks into the church! Ahh!!!

Final Say: This film is great. Plot, art direction, cinematography, script… you name it, this film has it. The use of lesser-known actors in the main roles helped to create an everyman realism. Plus, it is scary on multiple levels, whether fighting the infected, surviving with diminishing supplies, fending off deranged soldiers, or never knowing which friend you may have to kill next.
