Getting “Lost”: The Incident Preview

It’s almost here. If you’re like us, you can’t wait for the Season 5 finale of Lost to begin but you’re also dreading what happens when it ends, which is roughly eight straight months with no new episodes. In other words, this had better be a damn good last two hours (three, if you count the hourlong Lost: A Journey in Time recap that precedes the finale — which we don’t).

Here’s what ABC is saying about “The Incident”: Jack’s decision to put a plan in action in order to set things right on the island is met with some strong resistance by those close to him, and Locke assigns Ben a difficult task.

Keeping in mind that a new character of major importance will supposedly be introduced this week, guest stars for “The Incident” include L. Scott Caldwell as Rose, Sam Anderson as Bernard, John Terry as Christian Shephard, Nestor Carbonell as Richard Alpert, Jeff Fahey as Frank Lapidus, Francois Chau as Dr. Pierre Chang, Patrick Fischler as Phil, Eric Lange as Radzinsky, Zuleikha Robinson as Ilana, Brad William Henke as Bram, Jon Gries as Roger Linus, Alice Evans as younger Eloise Hawking, Andrea Gabriel as Noor “Nadia” Abed Jaseem, Kevin Chapman as Mitch, Mark Pellegrino as man #1, Titus Welliver as man #2, Emily Rae Argenti as young Kate, Tanner Maguire as young Tom, George Gerdes as Mr. Springer, Agnes Kwak as Aunt Soo, Amy Stewart as mother, Rylee Fansler as young Juliet, Savannah Lathem as young Rachel, William Makozak as Captain Bird, Daniel James Kunkel as anesthesiologist, Sonya Masinovsky as Russian nurse, Keegan Boos as young Sawyer, Colby French as Uncle Doug, John Pete as prison clerk, Michael Trisler as father, Sally Davis as woman and Adam Bazzi as cab driver.

Here are the unanswered questions heading into this week’s Season 5 finale, “The Incident”:

• Why does Locke want to kill Jacob?

• Will detonating the bomb really be the equivalent of hitting a reset button?

• Will Richard Alpert and Ben allow Locke to continue to lead the Others?

• Is Richard telling the truth when he says he saw Jack, Kate et al die?

• “What lies in the shadow of the statue?”

• How do Ilana and her crew know about the statue — and who sent them to the island?

• What’s in the silver crate?

• Who is Penny’s “outsider” mom?

• Why would Richard Alpert have to check with Charles Widmore and Ellie before saving Ben?

• Is Horace Goodspeed really Ethan’s father?

• How will Sun get to 1977 to reunite with Jin?

• What is the deal with that giant four-toed statue?

• Why did Jack, Kate and Hurley end up in 1977, while the rest of the Ajira 316 passengers seem to be in a different time?

• At the time of the purge, Horace is married to Olivia … so what happens to Amy?

• Is Helen really dead or did Matthew Abaddon simply show Locke a fake grave site to get him where he needed to be?

• Who is the man who created the equations used to find the island?

• How and why did Hurley get on the plane? (A visit from Charlie perhaps? It would explain the guitar case.)

• Why didn’t Richard and the other Others move through time when Locke did?

• How is Desmond “uniquely and miraculously special,” according to Faraday?

• Who is the woman in the butcher shop?

• Is Claire dead? If not, how is she communicating with Kate off the island?

• Who (or what) is Jacob?

• Why doesn’t Claire want Aaron to go back to the island?

• What does Christian Shephard want from Jack and Claire?

• According to the Oceanic 6’s story, who is Aaron’s “father”?

• Why doesn’t Jack want to see Aaron off the island?

• Why was Locke chosen by the island?

• What exactly are “the rules”?

• Why can’t Ben kill Widmore?

• What happened to Annie?

• What’s in that Black Rock journal, and why does Charles Widmore want it so badly?

• Who are the people on Ben’s list, and why are they on it?

Check back on Thursday for a recap of this week’s episode.
