Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

I would love to make an appointment to meet with Theresa! I have heard so much about her and finally saw her show last night for the first time and was blown away by her!!! I watch your show every week and am just so impressed. This week you mentioned animals and children seem to haave a connection with spirits. My youngest grandaughter is always saying “man”. Today she pointed at a picture of my husband (her grandpa) and said,”papa,man”. She’s only 2 yrs old and this has really been puzzeling me. I wonder if she really does see her papa?
My brother’s dad passed 18 yrs ago. My brother was only 3 so he never really got a chance to meet him. He has a lot of anger towards him for things that happened in the past. It really hurts my brother that he won’t ever be able to see or speak to his dad. I just wish he could get some closure & I truly believe if he were to hear from his father he’d feel a lot better. It would really change his life. I really hope you could help me. Thank You.

First, I want to tell you I love your show and what you do for so many others. Like many I have lost my mother and father and still to this day have a difficult time with both there passings. My family (siblings) is not close, so I feel very lonely with no one to talk with. I just need to know if they are together and what should I do with all that is going on now with my siblings. I live in North Carolina and would drive up to your hometown if I knew you could find a few minutes for me. I feel very desperate..Tired of being depressed. Theresa, my niece sees “dead people” and has since she was young. I believe they try to communicate with her and she doesn’t understand. She has been seeing a Psychiatrist; who is giving her drugs to help her cope. I have tried to explain to her what she is experiencing but she just thinks she’s crazy and doesn’t want them around her.

I would love for u to contact me about my sister and my brother. My sister her name is Raquel (Kelli) and she has been gone for 15 years. I miss her like crazy at this moment I’m going through a lot and she was my best friend and now she is gone. I want to here that she is ok and she me and my daughters. I was pregnant with my second daughter that she never met, but as long as she has be dead, my daughter has been alive. Please ccntact me , I really need this in my life right now. I miss my bother too, but I was 13 when he past. I still miss him and I want to here that he is ok too. I also have a lot of family that has past too, but I want to just focus on my sister and brother. Please, please contact me , please. Hello Theresa,,I love your show,,I believe you are genuine, I feel so many people are blessed through your help,,it must be awesome to be able to help so many souls when they are hurting from their loss. If there is any way you could come to the State of Alabama, it would be so wonderful. My daughter in law & I want to meet you & see if her Mom would come through,,I have deceased love one’s too, but she lost her Mom when she was only 18 & didn’t get to say goodbye. Maybe you can at least come close to Alabama or give us an appointment to see you privately. Keep up your wonderful work Theresa.

Oh Teresa, where do I start? First and formost I think you are such a beautiful woman. I love your family,your accents and everthing about all of you. But most of all I love how you help people. God has blessed you with such a beautiful gift. I am sure there are days when it is very difficult for you all but in my eyes you are an angel. I can only pray that I could be able to do this for people, give them peace of mind. I know envy is a sin but I would love to be able to do what you do. I admire you so very much. Hello Theresa,My problem is that my husbend died about 7 years ago,the night he died he did something I thought was strange.He was not awake a long time before this,he died of lung cancer.right before he died he sat up real quick and looked at me with a shocked look on his face.He looked me right in the eyes like he was going to tell me something, then he layed back and let out his last breath.Maybe you can tell me what it all means.I think he was saying goodbye one last time to me, at least I hope that is what he was doing. Hi, my name is LaKota McALister and im 18 years old and im a freshmen in college. It was about my junior or senior year in HS that my grandma had passes away and I still feel really bad that I didnt see her as much as i should have. I was there with her the day she had passed and i really didnt say goodbye and i really regret it and still cry everytime i think about it. That night was not a good night as me and some family members faught when she was there and could hear us. I just want to know if she forgives us and i want her to know i love her very much and im sorry i havent came to see her as much as i should have.
