Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

I am writing because I had a friend at work tell me about you, she knows how much I am at a loss right now. I just can’t begin to tell you. I have moments that are so deep and dark for me. I’m shut off from life at times that are so bad that it feels like I feel down a dark hole and can’t crawl out. I am moving through life but not living it to my potential. I fake it pretty good at times. I have thrown myself into my work. Just recently I had someone come in and they had the same birthday and my loved one and I had this really big knot in my throat that took forever to get ride off, I feel crazy at times. People look at me like I should get over it by now so I don’t even feel like I can even feel what I am suppose to feel, or grieve. I really would like to make an appointment to meet with you. I really need peace to be able to function and not take it out on the ones that are still here with me. Hello Theresa my name is megan. I live in michigan and am i HUGE fan of yours. I would love to meet you but also.get some advice from you. I have a strong feeling that i have a few spirits that follow me but sometimes i feel i get messages from them. I sometimes just block what they say out because i dont want people to think im crazy. Ive seen spirits ever since i have been younger. I have heard them. I can talk to different people that i meet and want to tell them certain things or have told people certain things that no one would ever know. Theresa…I feel compelled to write to you as I keep getting thoughts from my mother who is also named Theresa to get in contact with you. I lost a child and my life has fallen apart. My mom, dad and child are all gone and I know are together. I would give anything to hear from them, especially my child. When I watch your show I keep getting thoughts from them telling me to get in contact with you. It never fails. I was from Philly but live in Las Vegas now but I would travel to New York or perhaps do a phone read if you do such a thing. Please, I know how booked you are but if I can get an answer from you my prayers would be answered.

I just want to tell you that I came to see you at NJ Pac in Newark last week. You were great. I felt so bad for you because you were trying so hard to please everyone and answer questions, however, people were becoming so rude.
I would have loved to have been able to ask you a question, but I understand that it was impossible for you to answer everyones questions. I want to tell you something however, that happened to me. A week before I came to see you in Newark, I couldnt sleep so I watched one of your episodes on tv. Out loud, I called out to my mom and told her that I was coming to see you, and if possible to pls speak to Theresa. (I never feel her presence). WELL, as soon as I said that, You asked a woman (on the tv) if her son had passed. She said yes. Then you wrote a date 10/3 on your pad and showed her and asked if that meant anything to her. She said yes, it was her son’s birthday. THERESA, THATS MY MOMS BIRTHDAY. OH my God!!!
It doesn’t stop there. A couple of days after coming to see you in Newark, once again I woke up and watched the Sunday episode on TLC that I had recorded on my DVR. Once again I spoke out loud (don’t think Im crazy), “Mom, im sorry I wasnt able to get to communicate with you, I just wish you can validate that you are still with me”.
This is what happened next, A woman came to see you. You asked her if her mom passed. Then you asked her if she had trouble breathing and couldn’t catch her breath. She answered “Yes” to both.
Theresa, that is EXACTLY how my mom died (from lung cancer). Then you asked her what the number 13 meant to her. She said it was her father’s birthday. Theresa, the 13th is my father’s birthday. Now I’m getting CHILLS. Then you said to her “Who is Virginia?” She answered “it’s my sister.
THERESA, that’s my name. “VIRGINIA”. I cried myself to sleep that night, because I know she came to me. I’m cying now. Thank you.

I lost my uncle and cousin about 16yrs ago;my uncle was about 35 and my cousin was 4 and just wanted to know if they are happy together and if my uncle is proud of me..He was like a father to me,and i miss him every day. I have lost several loved ones, none more heart breaking than my father. I have a lot of regret and guilt that I deal with everyday. I have often wondered what he would say to me. dear Theresa, Today is the three year anniversary of the death of my son. I have a hard time with his death. I am raising his son. He was bi-polar and maybe if I had done something more for him he would be here today. His son is a blessing to us and I know he would be so proud of him. My son had such a big heart and everyone that knew him loved him.
