Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

I lost my mom, then my dog, then my sister all in the course of five months. My sister,my only sibling,and I were spiritually connected and I knew two weeks before that she was leaving. I went thru the grieving before it happened and I know it was to prepare me to hold everyone else up. My heart still breaks and I just wish I could connect with her again. I am 56 years old and found out 8 years ago that I have a twin sister and that the father that I always thought was my father is not. My mother left me a letter telling me all of this. Everyone that I could ask for help finding my twin has passed. I have done everything in my power to find her. I know she is close because other people have seen her, thinking it was me.I am at a point in my life that I need her so badly and as weird as this may sound…. I can feel my twin at times. My mother showed me your show and she started to cry, when she seen what you can do. And said to me, I wish she could do that for us. We lost my little brother at 8 years old, that was in 1985 and a little over a year I lost my baby. She was only a day old, when they found her in the hospital in 1986. And 7 more since then, but two were very tragic. We need answer and have many question to ask them, so we can be at peace in our minds and our hearts. I really hope you can do that for us. My brother has been suing me in Federal Court ever since my father died in 2008. He left a will, leaving me his estate (I took care of him for several years). My brother sued me for 2 million dollars and some change alleging I pressured my father into doing this. He had no evidence of that. I settled with him, but he refuses to obey the settlement agreement. I am worried that this is upsetting my folks and wonder if I should have just given my brother what he wanted. Are they okay?

Hi Theresa: I know you are called upon by thousands of people, but if for some strange reason you receive a strong drawing to respond to my e-mail I will be so grateful. I lost my only brother 1/11/12. My brother and I had a special bond; and I had told my family on 1/8/12 that he would not be with us much longer. On 1/11/12 he suddenly died. I have dealt with may deaths in my life, but to say I was devistated at his passing is an understatement. He went through so many valleys in his short time on earth (51 when he died) I just want to know he’s alright. I fussed at him one night about leaving me alone here as we were the two black sheep and that made us close. The next day, and at least once a week since, a Michael Jackson song “You Are Not Alone” has played. I’m so sure that’s him. If you have anything confirming that I would love to know. Theresa, I watch your show and think you are just amazing. I just had a question. Have you ever thought of helping families where their loved ones have disappeared and are needing closer. In Springfield MO 3 women went missing and are known as the Springfield 3. Sherrill Levit Suzie Streeter and Stacy McCall. There has never been any evidence showing what happened to them? I just thought it would be the greatest thing to have a show around helping families find loved ones and get answers in a situation where they just dont know what happend to them. I know that it could be controversial and some families may not want that but I bet there are many who would. Just a thought. Youre the real deal and God bless you for all you have done for so many people.
