Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Theresa, my husband passed away 12/31/11 of a very painful type of cancer due to the places where it metastisized. From the final diagnosis til his death, we only had 7 weeks. As he took his final 3 breaths, he had such fear in his eyes and I am having a very emotional time dealing with the loss especially since I know in my heart he was so scared. I would deparately like to know if he is okay and there are a few unanswered questions that hopefully he can answer with your help. It is possible for me to drive to Long Island from Missouri, but since I am now a widow on a budget I would need to plan for the trip and would need to know how much you charge and I can budget for the driving expense and lodging. I am on a fixed income and not in a position to pay a lot of money, but I really need some help. This is a sincere request not just a curiosity seeker.
I would be happy to pay for the telephone call, but again being a senior in Canada my income is truely very limited. I’m not just looking for a freebie, I am being honest with you.
Sometime ago, I contacted James Van Pragh and he did respond, however he no longer does readings…unless its for celebrities…or those who can afford him I guess. I am not being smart about that, but it is most likely true.
Anyway, if you can help me I would consider myself blessed.

hello teresa i also wa sinterested in a phone reading, i need some closure my father just passed away the week of christmas 2011 from a sudden infection that was never treated after surgery. We never got to say goodbye and my dad never got to say anything to us before he died he tried but they wouldnt let him. It is still very painful and now my mother i sill and we are not sure how ill she is. I really need to knwo what dad was trying to say to us the night he passed. want him to know he is loved and missed if you could do this for my family it would be a great blessing and closure for i cant quit thinking i never got to sya goodbye to the best man ever my dad. I have lost so many loved ones in my life..baby sister, uncle to a horrific farming accident, friends upon friends from drinking and driving to chicken on the road and car surfing, best friend from suicide-with me to find her,ex boyfriend-who i should have married and i still love dearly,and then most recently my poppy, who was like my oxygen tank. My grandmother is failing in health. I dont know what i will do when i lose her too. I have been feeling such loss and anxiety/panic attacks over all these loved ones being gone. My husband lost his father at 3 years old, he lost his two uncles 5 years ago within 20 days of one another and in January 2010 he lost his stepfather. Right after that my husband suffered 2 brain aneurysms and an aortic aneurysm, undergoing brain surgery and open heart surgery within 6 weeks of each other. I believe Dale was saved by all his spirits around him as no one survives such extreme circumstances. The doctors told us they had never seen anything like this and he set a precedent in the medical world. I would like my husband to have the chance to communicate with his spirits, especially his father. He needs to know they are always around him and he is here & survived for a purpose. He has lost so many people close to him and I don’t think he’s processed these losses. He has survivors guilt, I know it and he doesn’t know why he survived when all the people in his life did not. Sometimes he becomes depressed and he wonders why he survived, and asks why me? Why am I here? It breaks my heart, I need him to know he survived for a reason and they are proud of him for all he has done in his life. He is the kindest most wonderful man, I hate to see him suffer these losses and would love to give him closure. Thank you.
