Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

I recently started watching you on TLC, because my mail lady said I reminded her of you! I go to local medium once a year, but still feel so much unfinished business. I lost my mother, my father, and my husband within 8 years of each other. I have three daughters, a son in law, a grandson on the way this summer, and a funny Sicilian fiancé. My local medium has told me for years, that I have dead people around me always . This doesn’t surprise me because I’ve helped five people cross over. But there is still something HUGE, and I feel “stuck”. If you never intend to make it to the Midwest (St. Louis), I will come to you.

Theresa, I am seeing all the posts before mine and Im sure mine is no different to you and like them will probably never hear from you but I just have to say that this is my only way of reaching out for HELP! I lost my grandmother 1/25/2011 and it was so sudden and devastated my me and my family! We were together on Thanksgiving grieving for her cause it was our favorite holiday and little did I know that 5 days later I would get a call that my mother was found dead in the kitchen! I am devastated!!!! I need HELP! My whole life has been flipped upside down and shattered and if in any way you can help me then please help! I know some how you will feel a contection to me.. i use to have the gift myself.. But i lost it,, with so many loses in my life in such a short time span. My mom, dad. sister and brother, and i took care of them all.. and now i feel like alost soul.
