Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

I LOST MY DAD ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION. HE HAS MISSED MY ENTIRE ADULTHOOD. IT IS 15 YEARS NOW SINCE HIS PASSING. I WANT TO KNOW IF HE STILL VISITS ME AND MY MOM. Theresa, both my husband and I have lost our mothers and we both have a deep sadness for the loss. My husband has never had closure for the events that led up to his mom’s passing and I think he would heal greatly if his mom reached out to him.

Teresa I am 22 years old and I have a 2 year old son and my grandfather passed away a few years ago. I live in Ohio with my fiance and I think about my grandfather every day. And I was just wondering if he was still with me. I miss him terribly and I absolutely love your shows. Your shows gives me in site and hop that my grandfather is still with me. And maybe I could possibly tell my grandmother that he is still with us. I hope that you do reply back. I just saw your show for first time yesterday on TLC. While I’m a skeptic, I do find show interesting. I have observed body language of yourself and others, this show seems real. I’m in New Mexico and would never be able to go to New York. I wish you could tell me comforting news on my loved one who died in 1995 and still grieves me.

I lost my Mom & Dad not too long ago. I would love to hear they’re thoughts since I didn’t get to talk to either one before they passed on because they both died in a couma. Every now and again I smell my father and I know that’s it’s a sign that he is with me. Since they’re passing I only had one dream with both of them in it. In the dream my Mom was very mad at me and would not talk to me and my Dad was dancing with me with a huge smile on his face. Hello Teresa, I would like to know if you can refer me to a good “medium” in the Detroit area. I loss my father in 1986, my mother in 1987, my sister in 1979, my mother-in-law in 2001 and my husband on Christmas Day 2006. I have been seeing a wonderful man for 2 yrs, but feel like I’m cheeting on my husband. Could you refer me to a true medium in my area? I would love to see you, but the finances are just not there.
