Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

I watch your show all the time, I have lived in total turmoil and pain since the pssing of my mother 10 years ago. My mother passed from cancer and I have carried the guilt of possibly making the wrong decision which resulted in her final moments of life. I cry everyday because of this and missing her so bad.To add insult to injury,I lost my father not even 2 years before my mother and he asked me to eat dinner with him (I seen he and my mother at Wendys and stopped to say hi) But as usual I was in a hurry and declined the invitation. I am a Pa state paramedic and hopefully helped thousands of sick, injured people but I wasnt there for my own father when he needed me. All of the guilt I feel with both parents is making me feel like Im losing my mind and Im a nervous wreck 24/7. I have made attempts in the past to consult psychics and mediums with no accuracy what so ever. I know you are a busy woman and there are most likely people more important than me, but If you could contribute any of your insights I would so appreciate it and if you cant I also understand, I know your busy. Hi Teresa love your show I was from Brooklyn NY and lived in NJ. My daughter passed and she went into a coma so i never really got to say goodbuy properly. My husband was a world war II vetren and he died due to war so I never got to say goodbuy and I was left with 5 children from one to 12 years old. so i would like to have closure with my husband that passed in 1964 same year as president Kennedy and my daughter passed 5 years ago. I am 87 and would like to know before i leave this earth myself. hi my name is crystal. i lost my friend n my sons god mother almost 5 yrs ago from an over dose. i didnt talk to her in over a yr before she died because of her choices. i feel so bad and guilty about it everyday. anyways we use to sing and jam out to music and be silly with eachother. when i listen to a certain song we would sing together i cant help but sing it real loud. i get the chills up n down my back like she is there singing with me ?? do u think that possible ? i wish i could tell her i miss her and that im sorry she never to got meet my 2nd child when he was born :'(

Hey Susan I just wanted to say, I’m sorry. Its so hard. I’ve felt a lot of “presence” here and there in my life but never when I was asking for it. Its when I calmed down and started seriously trying to calm my brain when I had my first dreams of my dad. Now once in a great while I will feel him around, but I think u have to kind of heal a little before we know they’re there. Sometimes I think we try to hard to be with them and it makes it cloudy. My name is Kristie, my Mom JoAnn passed away last May 8, 2011 on Mother’s Day of heart failure, she was only 63. I miss her so much, I am an only child and my Mom was my best friend. I was told I had breast cancer 6 months before my Mom passed then the lumpectomy came back no cancer. It haunts me to think my Mom prayed for God to take her and not me. This is something she would have done and it hurts me so much, I just want to know that she was taken because it was “her time” and she is at peace and for her to know how much I love her.
I am flat disgusted ! This so-called medium woman is nothing but a fake. Boy, people will beleive anything. People use your heads. This is so unlogical. First, ask yourself has this woman or any other medium (HA)ever solved a crime. Think of those hundreds of missing children out there that a medium could find…has one ever found one? ALSO>>She is really good at “reading” people. Living people. Do you honestly think the producers of this show woiuld let their mega bucks star go on a “reading” without some background. Well I guess if she goofed up they could either edit it our or say the spirits were not communicating that day. She uses a LOT of generalization and some of her subjects react to her readings in over acting their part. Really watch with your eyes and not with your heart, and you will see what I mean.
Hey Delan you probley should not go around saying things you are not sure of. As a matter of fact there has been mediums that have solved missing person situations. My aunts brother-in-law Tommy was on insuline that he needed every day (by the way he was only 11) when he went missing the medium that was called in by the police, told the family to go get my aunts dog take it to the river and let him go the dog swam for 4 hours in a circle the body of her brother-in-law came up in the very location that the dog had swam The water was so murky that divers could not see down there and my aunts dog lived 25 miles from where tommys house was and 10 miles from the river. Kinda puts a hole in your spouting doesn’t it just hope you don’t ever need one the way they did
