Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Someone who is truly gifted does not exploit their abilities. They do not charge people who are hurting or seeking closure. THEY certainly do not do PRICELINE commercial that mocks their “abilities”. Just saying.
I hope to God that you Do read these comments Theresa. I was so applaud when I first saw the commercial for Price line and then-the Toyota commercial with your daughter … Why? You are totally undermining your God given gift and exploiting your celebratory status to make commercials. I agree with Mary and believe that all you have done by doing these commercials is allow my and others, skepticism ( I did believe in you whole hardheartedly, until now), My husband is a strong skeptic and is now rubbing my face in it. Saying if you were real, why would you be using your Gift to make commercials and even more money then, I’m sure your show has brought you more fame and notoriety and customers then you can possible handle in 4 life times…??? Why????? So disappointing and ashamed.

Theresa: I love your show and I believe in what you do. However, something I saw yesterday disturbed me. I saw a commercial yesterday with you in it and you were promoting a product. The disturbing part to me was you were using the sacred practice of smudging in this commercial. I found this disturbing due to the fact that smudging is a sacred ceremony or ritual and to have it be part of this commercial was wrong in my opinion. I am a Native American and I found this to be the wrong thing to do. To me it was dishonouring this ritual.

I also love Theresa and yet was disturbed by the commercial. Mediums have had to overcome so many stereotypes and this just took all of that back to the old belief systems of Charlatans and Frauds. Come on Theresa! Also, if this is a gift to her, why is she charging for her services? Tickets..$166.00? Seems greedy. Isn’t she
getting paid by the t.v. show already? What about the people who can’t afford her but need comforting..too bad? It just feels wrong to charge for a gift that was just handed to her. I do find her adorable, though and the people she helps on the show brings me to tears. I guess I just wish we lived in a world where no one was left out!

Dear Ms. Caputo, I and some of my family members would love to hear from you we have not been able to have any peace of mind since the deaths of a brother and a nephew that suddenly died on the same day and with how it happened, we feel others were involved in it, and can’t get the police to take another look at the case. Teresa I love your show and am a fan. You are so real and I’m so happy you are helping others. I don’t know how else to get someone’s opinion of what is happening with my friends daughter..so here I am. I hope you see this and can give me some advice. My friend’s 4 year old daughter sees “people”. It started as a baby honestly. She would stare at the picture of my mother who had passed. As she got old enough to talk she would say “pinky” which was my mother’s name and then she would say “passed away”. She was never told anything about my mom. She also saw people at the top of my stairs and I do believe the house i lived in at that time was haunted. But she also has met her grandfather who passed 2 years before she was born. She can explain what he looks like and says he gives her “luvvins”..or hugs. She is currently seeing a man in her bedroom name “cooper” that told her he got hit by a car. My friend wants to move again. I tried telling her that wherever she goes Savannah will still see “people”. I believe she has a gift. Do you have any advice for me to give her? Any words of comfort for her? A game plan for her to put into place so she is more comfortable with what her daughter can do? The girls dad tells her to STOP TALKING ABOUT IT, but that just makes her cry. anything you can do will be appreciated. I know you are busy. God bless.

Hi Theresa Ive Watched Your Shows alot and so has my mom. we love them so much and are great belivers of those kind of things. I wanted to ask if there was any possible way that I could get an appointment with you, my brother has just passed away recently and has came to say his last good byes with a couple of the members of the family including me but he has not been able to with my mother, this is breaking her heart and she feels like she wont be able to let him go and this wont let him rest in peace. I am very upset by your commercial PRICELINE.COM because if you want to be some modern day fortune teller that is one thing but when you start going on national tv and disrespecting native americans and using some turkey feather painted black on the tips to lead people to believe it is an eagle feather that is too much. You are making fun of what native americans hold dear. The eagle feather is the closest thing to God and they use cedar and eagle feather to bless things and carry prayers up to God and you are TOTALLY DISRESPECTING a culture, it’s people and their religious beliefs by your bogus commercial! Because of this I find you to be a FAKE and someone that would take advantage of others.
