Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Hi Theresa I live in Oregon. I am almost thirty years old. And ever since I was a child I have had strange spiritual events happen in my life from good spirits and not so good spirits. I have seen spirits and objects move, occasionally i hear voices in my ear and cant make it out. I’m not perfect but I try to keep my faith in Jesus. Theresa, although you may receive hundreds of messages, I pray the spirits move you to save my sister-in-law (my best friend) who lost her son (my nephew) several years ago, @ 16yo. She has NEVER recovered. She talks alot of ending her own life to be with him. She doesn’t see how many, many people love & need her here, on earth. I worry so much about her. We need you! Im going through a very hard time right now and I need some assurance and feel you can do that! I am seperated from my husband now for a year and it seem to be at a stand still with no answers. My son is in the Air Force and being deployed soon to Afghanistan. I need to know he will be ok and come back to us, his wife and son and me. I need to know do I go on and get a divorce or keep trying to work this out with my husband. My family has had huge loss over the past few years, It started 6 years ago, when I lost my sister suddenly at 40. Then one year later my mothers Brother dies of lung cancer with in three weeks of diagnosis. Then My mom died two years after my sister. Then my moms other brother died of Brain Cancer. Six month’s later his son, my cousin died in Afghanistan when hit by an IED,while serving in the Army. My Life fell apart when I lost my sister. We were only 14 months apart. With all this lost my family has had a really hard time. My cousin and UI said we feel like our family is cursed. How can so much death surround one family. I need to know that my mom and sister are OK. I’m 47 and feel like I need to get my life back. But I don’t feel as I can Till I know they are OK,that they are with me.
