Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Four of my friends were killed this thanksgiving day, it was a devastating accident where the car hit another , split in half than blew up. All kids from age 17 to maybe 25, we live in a smaller town which the whole community knows what happened. One person in the car survived the crash and nobody can understand why they say its to be a miracle . The boys that passed all had girlfriends and one even had kids, it’s a hard loss, they were great people and everyone doesn’t understand why it was chosen for them to be picked, we all cry and are upset especially for the one family. Who a little while back lost a child and now from this accident lost 2 more , leaving them speechless. My sister is blaming herself for this accident because it was her birthday that they were coming into celebrate, knowing one of the members that had passed is really close to her , She continuously asks herself “what if” like what if I talked to the on the phone longer what if, what if, what if. These people touched so many hearts when they here an had a great further ahead of them, all were amazing hockey players as well, it would mean the world to my community I we could have you come. Our community just might be able to function normally again and maybe bring peace to the next thanksgiving as well. It would be just magnificent with the gift you have , I love seeing how your able to make everyone’s day a lot better , your a true person and hoping you’ll be able to make our days better too . I love watching your show. I have a very BIG family, my grandparents had 14 children and my Aunts always say that they would love to see a medium, So they can see if my Grampa is with my grammy. I spent 57 days with my husband in ICU..I lived there..they gave me hope and then said all hope is gone and I had to sign the papers to let him go..I have asked so many pastors and priests…God says he would not put on you more than you can handle…I held his hand as he died…watched him take his last breath…why? I need to know in my heart I did the right thing by letting him go…I’m sure he’s ok now…at peace…but I am not…I will never survive this I feel…I was Judge, Jury and Executioner…I can’t sleep…I feel I’m drifting away..so much more I could say but choose not to…why I ask?
Hello Theresa, I love watching your show. You touched my heart,and I truely belive in you.I lost a child in July 2008 ,he had just turned 17yrs old.I would love to know that he is at peace as a horrible accident caused his sudden death.There are so many things that happend that I’ll never have all my answers due to alot of cover up.So many people wore the cause of his accident.I really need to find my peace again.I dont go a day with out thinking the what if’s and whys?Not only did I lose my child,I lost my 21year marriage, his father divorced me after his passing just as I started to regain some peace a few years after his passing . Hi Theresa. This past year has been very hard for me. On January 10th my mom passed. Then on April 6th my husband of 18 years passed away. I have three children and my children and I need closure over these deaths. Every day one if not all of us cry over loosing these two amazing people that we loved very much. My oldest daughter 13 watches your show all the time and asks me why her daddy has not tried contacting her then my youngest 9 asks why daddy does not come to her in her dreams.
