Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

I feel so close to my great grandparents but only was around them when I was a small child. I feel that esp my great grandmother keeps telling me things I can’t quite understand. Lots of bad things happened to my father and unfortunally his father too, I’m not sure if that has to do with it. I want to make this life the best my family has, I’m trying so hard to fix things and help my family over my great grandparents passing because everyone went downhill since then and since me they’ve gotten a little better. I’m lost and curious if you feel anything about this that would help me help them further.

I know you have many people who need you, but I really feel my brother has led me to you. I watched your episode with a girl who lost her brother and felt this connection to you like I have to meet you. I too lost a brother who died at 25. There are so many questions left unanswered and I feel like I can’t move on without knowing at least that he is okay. My mother and I did a reading with light of Brian that I researched about, but we feel skeptical with her reading. The main reason is that she feels we all have spirits already in heaven and are reincarnated. That is not my belief, so I feel even more lost and confused. I first want to say its ironic that I forgot your show was starting today since it is my birthday..lol. I really enjoyed your show and watching how you help people. The one girl in particular (with the “boyfriend”) really upset me and actally made me cry. Things have been tough this last year and I am trying to pull whats left of my family together. When I watch you interact with your daughter it gives me some relief to know I’m doing okay with my 16yr. I am going to have to find someone to teach her to drive as well. No way will I be patient enough.lol. I know you are very busy and have a waiting list. I will contact you about it once I figure out where it is I will be living with my children. It is refreshing to see someone with such a gift who is not only using it to make money but to help people all the time. I know it may get tiring for you but to see the smiles you bring to people is wonderful.
Just watched the show, over and over and over again … All i can think is if theres someone out there thats able to give someone this kind of gift why have i never met them , everyone tells me to have hope , so i do .. then i see you and i no that i wont ever be able to meet you and share that gift of yours . get back to me if you have the time , but you will most likelly be too busy with the fam of the show , god bless you *
So it appears I may not be crazy. I have avoided approaching people with messages for fear that they would want to send me to the looney bin. I have only shared with a few family members and three others outside the family. I haven’t been able to explain why I want to tell someone something because it just sounds so odd… Medium. How about that. I don’t get the messages all the time like you. But when I do, they are clear. If only you were closer.
My grandson was hit by a train 3 months short of his 20th birthday in 2009. I desperately need to know if he was afraid or felt pain and if he’s ok. I miss him so much and cannot enjoy life without him. I live in Kansas but would meet with you anywhere anytime to hear anything from or about him.
