Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

I didn’t actually want a reading, I was looking for some guideance on how to start the process of being a medium. I am 28 years old, married and have an 8 month old son. Over the years I have had many dreams of the deceased and people tell me that they are speaking to me from the otherside.
The past few years it seams to be stronger. I’m not sure if it is because I am older now and just more open to it? I have never done any research b/c I’m afraid of being misled, but after watching your show, I thought maybe I can do this, I just don’t have a clue where to begin. I also don’t know how to get over the fear of someone contacting me. When I feel the spirit near I get sooooo nervous and block them out. I don’t want to do that anymore. I want to help people the way that you do.
I can see by the numerous amounts of emails and the 2 year waiting list that you are a Very busy woman. So, if and when you have time to drop me a quick line I would greatly appreciate it.

I am in need of closure! I need help with my fathers passing. I feel that so much was left unfinished with him. He passed 5 yrs ago today. We have now renamed Halloween to Aloween in his memory 🙂 My father was in a different state when he became ill and I had no idea this had taken place until one day I got the phone call nobody wants from a father his name was father Dave that’s all the information I got except him telling me my father was very very ill and gave me a number to call about his condition. I pray you will read this and maybe even feel or hear from my father so that I can hear his message or just know he is at peace . My best friend, Jeffrey. Lost his father some time ago from a fatal heart attack. Jeffrey never told his father he loved him or said goodbye. He didn’t have a chance to. He was living in a different state. He has carried this burden for years and has been unable to flourish in his life. I know you probably receive hundreds of thousands of letters like this. The reason I am writing to you is well, I am in love with Jeffrey. We had dated off and on for a year and half and well, Jeffrey is commitment phobic because of this burden he carries from his father’s death. Ever since the first time I saw your show, I have been a very faithful viewer. My husband passed away on December 28, 2004 and I was in the room when he passed. I have had many unexplained occurrences since he passed and I need to know if those occurrences are coming from him, everything from clocks with no batteries running normally and my husband’s cane, which is in the hall closet, being out of the closet, against the wall. There are more things. Anyway, I live in Oklahoma and wondered if you do telephone readings. I know how busy you are, but I would consider it such a privilege to be able to talk to you. I have always been skeptical of mediums and how much of it was true, then I saw your show….You have made a believer of me with out a doubt. This November will be 2 years since the death of my son. You have so many messages, so many people needing answers. I feel terrible to even ask. I live in Texas and don’t have a way to reach you in person for a reading. If a young man steps forward to you looking for his Mom Rhonda or any of our family. Would you contact me? Maybe he will come through like steven did.
