“Long Island Medium” Theresa Caputo talks to my dead mother, for real

I was about 15 minutes into my conversation with medium Theresa Caputo about her new TLC series Long Island Medium when my mom decided to show up.

Caputo interrupts my questioning with, “You’ve lost a lot of loved ones.”

I disagree, saying “I wouldn’t say a lot, but a few, yeah.”

She confidently asks, “Is your mom departed?”

“OK, that’s weird,” I think. After all, most people my age still have their mothers, so she really took a long shot throwing that one out there.  But, I acknowledge that my mother is indeed deceased.

Caputo goes on to explain that prior to answering my call she had written down a few things including my name, mother, daughter, young male, 4 and 62. She tells me there’s a “lot of energy” going on, and suddenly I get a little nervous, thinking this could be my doing. Although I didn’t tell Caputo, when I drove to work that morning I had actually talked to my mom in my head [and that’s something I just don’t do. I’m a bit skeptical on ghosts and spirits]. I simply thought, “Hey, if you want to reach out to me I’m talking to a medium today.” And that was it.

Caputo asks: “Where you at the actual passing of your mother because your mother showed me the holding of the hands, which means she wants to go back to the day of her passing. Were you actually there for that moment or did you just miss the passing?”

I gulp. It’s a sensitive topic for me, since I was the only family member who actually wasn’t there when she passed. So I tell her I was not.

Caputo says that my mother is validating that nothing was left unsaid and that “everything and anything you said to your mom was heard.” She then asks? “Whose birthday is now? If it’s not today or the week of it’s usually the month we are in.”

“That would be me,” I tell her. “OK,” Caputo says. “So your mom’s just wishing you a happy birthday.”

I give an uncomfortable laugh and jokingly ask Caputo to tell my mom to hush up, so I can get back to doing my job.

But Caputo — well, maybe it’s my mom —  isn’t quite finished. We go on to connect months and dates, discuss that “young male” reference, significance of April and more. She presses on with “Do you remember the year 62? Or could it stand for the month of June and the month of February as far as birthdays or anniversaries?”

“My mom was born in February, died in June,” I confirm.

“Perfect,” Caputo says. “Just validating your mother’s presence and that she took this opportunity. Spirits will take any opportunity to get a message to someone.” Then Caputo’s Long Island accent comes out as she describes my mom as a “chatty catty.” Glad, she’s having a good time.

“Whether you believe or understand what I do, and I don’t mean to be rude, but it really doesn’t matter,” Caputo says. “That’s not what this is about. This phone call is not about you believing in what I do. What just happened right now, what I interpreted it as a beautiful gift you just received from your mother. Knowing that even after all these years of her not being here in the physical world she hasn’t missed out on anything. She acknowledged your children, that she held the children before coming here in the physical world and she’s still with you, and loving and guiding you from the other side. Right?”

Gulp.
What a loaded thought. I pause. I collect my thoughts. “Did I tell her I had kids? Could this seriously be real?” And I simply say: “That’s awesome. Thank you.”

So add me to Caputo’s long list of clients who have been given the gift of closure. Now, as for my sister, she’s really ticked my mom didn’t even give her a shout out! She’ll have to join Caputo’s long waiting list and maybe we’ll here back from her in a few years.

Long Island Medium airs on TLC Sundays beginning Sept. 25.

  1. James Randy is an idiot. Psychic ability cannot always be “tested” due to it’s nature. They do SOME testing at ASU for your information. Police departments use psychics. I’ve had many psychic experiences myself. It’s real. It’s true there are many fakes, but it’s just as true there are many psychic people the world over.

  2. Amazing that so many people are unaware that psychics and mediums ARE real. The fact that so many people fake being psychic or medium though, is why there is so much distrust. Don’t let that rob you of the beauty of psychic ability or after-life communication.
And yes even true mediums or psychics will ask a few questions, to validate what they are getting. It depends on how many questions though, you will know from common sense. If all she asks is “your mother is passed over” and then goes on to give a lot of factual detail, no problem ! Use your common sense, that would be a real psychic or medium.
I have psychic and mediumistic ability, so one knows me so why would I lie ??? Many people have abilities and to see what yours are try meditating regularly and have faith. That’s usually all it takes to get started.

  3. I think she’s genuine. I hope nothing is being even partially set-up for the cameras though. Her hair looks like a Halloween wig, unfortunate. I like 60’s styles and dramatic looks too but that hair was not really done very well. Kind of like a hooker. Her entire style should be toned down, she comes across as kind of trashy.

  4. Psychics are fake. Period. More so when they appear on TV shows and prey on innocent and naive people. Shame to Theresa Caputo and shame to TLC for airing this s*it. I can’t stand her disgusting voice even in the advertisement, let alone watching the show.

      • Prove that they aren’t fake. As an incentive, James Randi offers a $1,000,000 prize for anyone who can demonstrate true psychic abilities. Even if you do not need the money personally, you could donate it to charity. Step up to the plate, take the challenge.

    • well your def not goin to heaven!! shame on you…theresa helps so many people..you dont wanna believe in it fine..but dont put her down..shows your maturity!!!

  5. This is NOT HER WEBSITE! I understand of you want to get in touch with her, but REALLY, do you think she’s checking this everyday for clients?

    No!

It’s your own fault if you recieve prank calls and/or spam because you’re posting personal info! Come on, people, be smarter than that!!!!!

  6. Melanie, is it so wrong that perhaps the nonbelievers/haters here might just suggest that people here explore the concept of cold reading before seeing a psychic? It’s also extremely convenient that psychics, with some divine direct connection to the great beyond still can’t verify who the ghost is without getting confirmation from the still living family member. I strongly suggest people do research before finding a charlatan, err…psychic to talk to their dead relatives. If you don’t spend just a little time researching the phenomenon, then you really deserve to be taken by these people. Again, google “cold reading” and just read a couple links that come up and see if the non psychics can conjure spirits as easily as “real” psychics.

    • Dave, have you ever stop to consider that maybe people are not that naieve or gullable!? That others are aware of cold reading…seeing as though there are 5$ gypsies everywhere that hustle their money up, while stating the obvious and telling you you have a curse on you that involves buying expensive candles and rocks, and handing over more money. They continue to harrasse you for a couple of days until they realize you not giving up more money. Of course a psychic has to ask the living questions their visions are not clear as day…it is in and out. Some are stronger than others and yes there are sources that they read to make themselves stronger. I, for instance, can feel spirits, but cannot see or speak to them. I just know if they are there or not. I witnessed my psychic argue with a girl about being pregnant. He told her she was and she said she seen three specialist that said she could not have kids. He told her he feels something in her ovaries and that she was indeed pregnant. They argued about it and she went home a non-believer until a week later her symptons shown, she went to the hospital, and found out she was indeed 3 weeks pregnant….I can tell you a thousand stories about what I’ve seen. Yes, there are fakes, but yes there are real ones too. And there are stronger ones than others…maybe you should go beyond reading and experience it!

    • I agree. Isn’t strange that they can convey that the loved one forgives them for past events and other detailed information, but can only supply the first letter of their name? If they are truly psychic, they will have no problem participating in James Randi’s $1,000,000 challenge.

  7. What these people have is a gift not a sickness. I feel bad for the man with the sister on medication. Anyways, a medium asks questions like that is because they can only receive parts of the message not everything but enough. For anyone who wants to talk to a real pschycic here is a facebook link to my friend, Ernesto http://m.facebook.com/Psychic.Ernesto?id=1693048219&_rdr leave him a message with a friend request (nonbeliever/haters need not apply) I can not disclose the number because his is personal and I see there are nonbelivers/haters. He is real and can help.

    • I will talk to him after he successfully completes $1,000,000 challenge offered by the James Randi Educational Foundation.

  8. Also, I agree with Kara. I suspect that it’s an advertisement, given that this is a no-name site. TLC is a joke for airing this and other shows like it. If you think it isn’t about money, look at Toddlers and Tiaras and 18(or whatever the hell that number is now) Kids and Counting. TLC’s only requirement is a large audience.

  9. Notice that a lot of questions that she asks are generic, like, “Did your mom just pass away?” She isn’t going to do free readings for anyone unless she can get something out of it, like free advertising. Clearly it’s working, since she’s got no available appointments for a while. Her job is to make clients/victims feel better about an emotional or even mental problem they’re having. It has a placebo effect, where the information does not have to be true to have an effect on people.

  10. Good job everyone who posted personal information. Now I can see the level of intelligence of the people that believe this shit.

  11. If Theresa is amazing at anything it’s scamming people into believing this crap. I challenge everyone to read this blog again and take note of how many times she asked questions fishing for answers. I could just as easily throw out random names, numbers, and dates and ask if they have any significance and take whatever answer you give as some kind of divine confirmation from the beyond.

I suggest people go see a mentalist’s act locally or in Vegas to see how easy it is for con artists to gather information from the audience then make it look like some supernatural gift. It’s called a trick folks and clearly the majority here have fallen for it.

  12. PEOPLE, STOP POSTING your personal information on this site! This site does not belong to Theresa Caputo. This is just an article about her show.

Also, bear in mind that it’s probably not even an article but a creative advertisement. If it’s a real article, Ms. Caputo probably researched the writer before she spoke with her.

  13. Makes me lose faith in our society that so many people are this gullible. You are a horrible person Theresa for bilking these poor desperate, uneducated people out of their money and fulfilling false hope built on cold readings. Shame on you. If you truly are a medium, prove it and collect the JREF million.

  14. It’s a shame you’ve fallen for this scam artists. She and all her ilk are fakes.

  15. It’s sad how many people Theresa Caputo has tricked into giving her money, promising to reconnect them to their dead loved ones. She is a con artist.

  16. Hello everyone!

I can feel a lot of energy coming from all of you, I can’t wait to get in contact with each one of you and help you connect with your spirit, and your lost loved ones.
