NBC Dateline special to interview skydivers and pilots from Wisconsin plane crash

In an incredible event last weekend, all nine skydivers, and both pilots, aboard two planes that collided in mid-air over Superior, Wisconsin, managed to survive the experience. This Friday, Nov. 8, NBC will air a special hourlong installment of Dateline featuring interviews with all nine skydivers and the two pilots. (NBC is receiving criticism from some outlets for agreeing to pay a six-figure fee to the skydivers for the exclusive interviews and airing of their amateur footage.)

Dramatically titled “Miracle on the Sunset Dive,” this episode of Dateline takes a closer look at the Wisconsin plane crash that took place at about 12,000 feet. The collision sent one plane crashing to the ground as the skydivers on board survived by jumping from the wreckage. The harrowing scene was captured on five helmet cameras worn by the divers as they were flung in the air. The video shows their point of view as they plummeted to the ground surrounded by burning fuselage, as well as the second plane’s remarkable emergency landing after sustaining serious damage.

Some of the video licensed by NBC is seen in the video below, from a previously aired NBC News report.

On Dateline, Matt Lauer will sit down will all 11 survivors – including, for the first time, the pilot whose plane plummeted to the ground after losing both of its wings – for a second-by-second account of the collision. The survivors of the Wisconsin plane crash will also share in-depth details behind the extraordinary footage and photos.

Dateline: “Miracle on the Sunset Dive,” which looks at the Wisconsin plane crash, premieres Nov. 8 at 8pm ET on NBC.
