NEW! Is Alaskan Bush People Fake? Does It Matter?

Viewers of Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People have been wondering if the four episodes of the Brown family’s adventures in the wilderness are all they’re going to get. The new show Siberian Cut takes over the Tuesday night time slot and no new episodes of Alaskan Bush People are currently scheduled.

[Update: A new episode of Alaskan Bush People, titled “The Wild Life,” premieres Sunday, June 15, at 10pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. Based on the show’s description, it sounds like it might be a highlights/recap/additional unaired footage type of show: “After facing unparalleled obstacles, the Browns reflect on their past year of living in the Alaskan Bush while providing surprise revelations about the family’s lifestyle.”

Last seen, the Brown family suffered another setback as the boat they were using to scout a new home in southeast Alaska hit an object, took on water and sank at the dock. The family made it off the boat safely, but were left with an uncertain future.

They can’t possibly let the show end like that, can they?

Well, the news here is that there is no news. According to a Discovery Channel spokesman, the network has not announced whether or not Alaskan Bush People will be returning.

As for the Brown family, all nine of them were in Los Angeles in January for the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour and were on a panel to promote the show, which at the time was scheduled to air on Animal Planet. (So no, they didn’t starve or freeze or anything after their boat went down in Episode 4.) You can learn more about them and see some pretty interesting photos of the family at their official website. Also, do read this article by Zaz Hollander of Alaska Dispatch, who did some investigating into some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the show that have been debated in these recaps.

At the panel, Billy Brown summed up the origin of his family’s Alaskan adventure as well as how the TV show came into existence:

“I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and my family died when I was 16, and I kind of hit the road. When Ami and I got together, we traveled all over the place, and we found that as we were going places, we never were really content where we were. We kept getting we’d go to the country, and it wasn’t really enough country. We kept getting deeper and deeper in, and then, when Alaska opened up to us, it was like a it was like a ready made home to us. And when we got up I have written children’s books for my kids and stuff and a book about my life, One Wave at a Time, and our guys went in when you go to the harbor shacks and stuff, we get Internet every once in a while, and our guys went in, Bam especially, and he put a website for the kids’ books. And through that, a guy got in touch with us, and we ended up here. And I am the one that didn’t want to come. …

This is, you know, not what we had planned. We spent 30 years of our lives trying to stay as far away from this kind of stuff as we could, and people. And we discussed it a lot, and I guess … it was Ami that really talked me into it more that we thought it would be cool if people could really see how we live because I don’t think you guys know people who really still live that way, because it’s not a movie. It’s us.”

  1. I love the brown family I think It makes for good entertainment most true some fill ins. I live in the country with hardly anything with my husbands death I have done some of the same things they have and by watching them and how they act it cant all be made up. I was just wondering how they get gas for that boat and amis teeth and bears hand and even their clothes that I doubt good will would even have plus I don’t know what kind of arrangments they have with discovery channel but they by laws would have to be paid for the show or the discovery channel would be in deep trouble. but they may can only spend their show earned money on medical emergencies and maybe gas for the boats and such as that while filming the show and I’m sure that billy is a wheeler and dealer so it doesn’t surprise me he did the claims he did to help their income to feed his kids and wife before he got this reality show toughing it out is what it takes to live without money and though I don’t steal or cheat I do compare with this family .so people who cant relate shouldn’t even comment on the brown family cause you don’t know love the show its informative than ks bo

  2. They are good folks and the kids are unique. There are not to many Alaskans that have not broken the law, but hopefully the family gets through this rough period.

  3. Fantastic family and family values never seen a couple so in love and connected. Your children are a credit to you. Wish you all well and all that you wish comes true x hard working x

  4. Fake or not, I like watching Alaskan Bush People. If members of the family broken the law, then he/she should face the music. What really surprise me, is people complaining that the show is fake. All TV show is scripted. I learned that when I worked a short time for Paramount Pictures. I’m surprise people are not complaining about the UFO, Bigfoot, Monsters, and Ghost hunters TV shows.

I’m really surprise about the TV show, Appalachian Outlaws. It was the most stupid show on TV. People making death threats, pointing guns at each other, and someone muscling in on someone ginseng spot right in front of the camera crew. At least Appalachian Monsters Hunters, stupid, but very funny. The young over weight guy, Buck, keep on passing out on one of their hunts.

Remember, TV shows/movies are for entertainment. Unless its make in the TV Guide rating, Based on a True Story.

  5. I Love the night come on…They are Very Good People….They work for what they have…and hunt for there food and do what is in need of to make it…They Love their way of Life…They are happy….How day to set down with your grandchild….not how…will you old (..)..you and all about sex…all make me sick….There show is about Living you Life…yes it can be hard at ….Dad life was like that when he was growing up….Ok they get paid for the show….so what…you kept asking them to do the show an said they would be pay…it there money..what they do with it …. Is there business and no one business…Knowing the Brown Family..they all takes about doing the show… Will I Am So Happy They Did..Love watching them…Happy Put The Brown Back ON….It A Great Family Show….I Love the way they Live….My Husband and I lay and talk if we was not sold and sick….and he a big Family like they have …would just Love to live like them….Brown We Love You All….God Blessings For You All….KEEP THE BROWN ON!!!!!!

  6. Real or fake doesn’t make any difference to me love the show, I want to see the boys get married and build cabins of their own. Their an interesting family and fun to watch and I so hope the courts will be kind to them no one is perfect and after all who did they really hurt just make them pay back the money and do community service.

  7. I have watched this show since its first show and it is by far the best show I have watch in my 56 years of watching tv. It is true the Browns now have money from being paid for the show and why they filled out the form with false info is something that they have to live with and it is really no one else business but the people of Alaska and the courses will solve that with them. They were asked to do this show and with some skepticism they decided to do it and they are doing a great job in my opinion. Yes they did buy a big boat for $5000.00 from a good friend of billy brown and made araingesments with him for the payment. He may have got a loan from the family money or may have paid it in some other way that is their business not the worlds. I hope myself they keep the show going and if they don’t I will not watch another show on the discovery channel again and I am sure no one else in my large family will either. Leave the bush people on the air and let them handle their own legal cases themselves. They have attorneys that will help them. I think the Alaska bush people are the best, the show is the best show on tv and is great for kids of all ages. Please remember that billy brown is not in the best health and may be the reason he does not work as hard as the young kids. Thank you for reading my comments.

  8. Please bring the browns back, they are my favorite show. I don’t watch t.v. A lot but I will always be in front of the t.v. For the browns!

  9. we love watching the brown bush people !! let us know what happenened to billy brown and how is he doing. god bless all of them. j thomas

  10. Honesty, millions of dishonest people within the states file false information and steal daily from the government in receiving assistance for food stamps, housing, etc! The Browns claim(s) are revealed only because of their popular TV Show. Somebody is always hating on someone else who finally gets a decent break in life that they don’t have it! How many Reality Shows are “For Real”? Please!! At least I can watch this show without the need of the Ratings pushing “Nasty Trash Mouths” talking about their sex drives or the lack of! At least this show is about a family striving to work together and NOT trashing other people to elevate themselves! I am positive that we all have ugliness that would be revealed, if the cameras stayed on our lives 24/7! Give the Browns a break! My family will keep watching!!

  11. Please bring back the Brown family. Everyone makes mistakes, you own it and then move on. We love the show, and every other word is not swearing.!!!!

  12. PLEASE don’t have this show back on!! These people are a farce. “Supposed” to be poor, where’s the money coming from for the HUGE boat and the brand new house?

    • Leave them alone it’s a good show everybody has problems a least there is no bad words an all are trying to live a normal life it . Wasn’t his fault they gave him money there are other people does worst than what they did.

      • I agree with you Cathy, lots of others doing much worse, leave them alone, or better yet don’t watch, then you will have no complaints!!

    • Have you seen the house? Yea its new wood, that’s it. There is a blue tarp and plywood for the roof. No electricity, UN less they peddle the bike to get the altinater to the to generate it. Did you not watch the episode about the boat? It’s rotted out in the entire bottom, they found that out when they went for there first hauling job. I’m sure they had some type of savings, they didn’t go out to the bush and start building brown town on there good looks, lol!! Cause that would not have happened either, do your homework on them before you start spuing your complaints, they also bartered for part of that boat to, along with very little cash. Ugh! People like you that complain and have no clue what your talking about are ridiculous. That house is really sad. Try to be happy with what you have and leave others alone, no matter who they are!!!!

    • E Bolton
They always seem to be building a house.
Wish they would get the oldest daughter’s front tooth fixed. She is a pretty girl otherwise.

    • Look at all the politicians who don’t go to jail for stealing. And they steal millions. Your looking at maybe 20,000 between 4 people, and its just over not being a resident for 4 years. Are you that pathetic?

    • He might be lazy, but its made his kids to have great work ethic’s and good morals, there much more responsible than other grown kids are now days. This world is made up of a very lazy unapprecitive, generation, and they are the upcoming adults to someday run our country? Rather have the bush kids, might not be the smartest, but there nice and hard workers and respectful. Parents take note of what most of you are doing wrong in raising your kids!!!!!
