Mountain Monsters Season 3 will be a “Bigfoot Edition”

Destination America is becoming a network that seems heavily focused on paranormal programming. In February, the network debuted the new series True SupernaturalGhosts in My House and Ghostly Encounters, and the channel has a backlog of other monster- and ghost-related programs in its library. One of those series that has been a hit — and, in fact, is Destination America’s No. 1 series, according to the network — has been Mountain Monsters, and Mountain Monsters Season 3 begins on March 7.

Mountain Monsters Season 3 is billed as a “Bigfoot Edition,” and kicks off with eight episodes featuring the pursuit of Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) across the region (the second half of the 16-episode season will air later this year). The show again finds the men of the Appalachian Investigators of Mysterious Sightings (AIMS) — Trapper, Jeff, Willy, Wild Bill, Huckleberry and Buck — seeking legendary creatures. This season, as the series’ subtitle indicates, the team will be looking more for Sasquatch-type creatures in various areas of Appalachia, where locals have various names for the apelike beasts they claim to see, from “Midnight Whistlers” to the “Wildman.”

In the season premiere of Mountain Monsters: Bigfoot Edition, AIMS begins its efforts to prove the existence of Bigfoot in central Kentucky, where they believe that the Midnight Whistlers reported there were the first variation of Bigfoot to emerge from the Mammoth Cave system 3,000 years ago. The Midnight Whistlers, as you might expect, draw their name from the ear-piercing whistle they are said to emit. According to a Mountain Monsters release, “The AIMS team goes hot on the trail of one Midnight Whistler after discovering the most elaborate and massive nest they’ve seen to date and must construct a customized trap large enough to contain this 8-foot tall monster.” If nothing else, “Midnight Whistlers” is going on my shortlist of what I’m going to call my fantasy football team next year.

Other upcoming episodes include the following, some of which, while having “Bigfoot” in their titles, don’t necessarily appear to be even focusing on a Bigfoot, but rather a Hellhound or a Chupacabra. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

“Bigfoot of Putnam County” March 14 at 10pm
The AIMS team heads to Putnam County, WV after the legendary Chupacabra, known as the West Virginia Vampire. Thought to originally be from Costa Rica, this four-foot-tall, sharply fanged creature has migrated North to Appalachia and is killing indiscriminately and terrifying the locals. But the mystery soon deepens when the team learns that the victims’ bodies are vanishing after the blood has been sucked out of them.

“Bigfoot of Eastern Kentucky” — March 21 at 10pm
The AIMS team continues their quest to prove that Bigfoot exists in Appalachia as they head to Eastern Kentucky after the “Wildman” thought to be the most dangerous and aggressive Bigfoot in the region.

“Bigfoot of Lincoln County” — March 28 at 10pm
The AIMS team is out for revenge as they head back after the “Hellhound” who evaded them in the cornfields of Kentucky last autumn and left a terrible taste in their mouth. This time this deadly K-9 has reemerged in Lincoln, WV, and seems to again be using cornfields as cover to travel undetected from farm to farm.

It’s probably unlikely that AIMS will have any more luck proving the existence of Bigfoot than the gang on Animal Planet’s Finding Bigfoot has had, but folks on all of these shows should start heeding the words of advice we heard from one of our readers regarding these series: “You need to get a monster soon or I am gone.”

Mountain Monsters: Bigfoot Edition airs Saturdays at 10pm ET on Destination America beginning March 7. Eight episodes will air, with the second half of the season premiering later in 2015.

  1. What happened to the bigfoot evidence found at the supposed grave site?
What happened to the people stalking the team?
Extremely disappointing Producers. The story lines are becoming more and more predictable; all good dramatic series follow up on previous episode ticklers. The Blair Witch homage, was well intended but lacked a critical scary moment. Make me an offer on a head writers gig. I believe I can save your series.

  2. Well, if you happened to watch the last Mountain Monsters’ show — you might think that it was wrote/scripted by a writer from one of those daytime soap operas that my own wife likes to watch … Where they have people coming back from the dead as exact duplicates, clone people to appear as an exact copy, speech, body and all , and just a bunch of silly things like that; along with kids aging from the crib to a 21 year-old mature person in just a couple of years …..

Now, MM has those monster critters using mind control over our buddies Buck and Huckelberry … Whats next MM writers/scripters???? Those monster-critters going high tech and using the internet and hacking into the AIM’s computers and IPhones and corrupting all of their evidence about these critters??? Or maybe making all the AIM team members by mind control — shave off all their facial hair and become clean shaven??? Just HORRIBLE to think of …. And maybe Willy will lose his ability to build ingenious traps — He seems to be the only one with any sense at all on the show – The rest of it reminds me of 1950-60’s cartoons like Tom and Jerry, The Roadrunner and Wylie Coyote LOL.

I have joked before tongue-in-cheek on this site about MM being a serious scientific show trying to validate the existence of some of these unexplained sightings – OF COURSE IT’S NOT – but it is what it is …. A COMEDY SHOW – but entertaining nonetheless …

If you happened to start watching this show because you thought it was an honest attempt to explain Bigfoot/other weird sightings that can’t be explained, etc. – It should only have taken you a couple – 3 shows to realize …. it’s only entertainment … like going to the movies or pro wrestling ….

In a way it has hurt the investigation of some Unusual Sightings, Bigfoot Sightings, and other mysteries that have intrigued some of us …. some of these reported sightings might just be garbage – or they could be some parts with truth … I for one, don’t really know … There are people who swear they have experienced such encounters … are they lying? Were they on drugs? Do they have mental problems where they have visions? … Or do they really believe they had these weird sightings .. and they are not really sure themselves, if it was real or what ….. This show has taken away this wonder/mystery that some of us had ……. and turned it into Wylie Coyote trying to trap the Roadrunner cartoon from years ago ……

  3. Love these gentlemen, wish they could come to Putnam County NY,Bigfoot sightings there.Promise to cook a Real Yankee Dinner or Italian

  4. Mountain Monsters is an entertaining show to watch but not to be taken too seriously. It is based on real events and reports by real people, but all the stuff that happens on the show is obviously staged. Finding Bigfoot is a more serious show – but even parts of it are made to look like something more than they are ….. It is a lot less entertaining because it moves so slow and is more true to life… Like John was saying …. To be able to track these monsters down a crew would “have to go to war” and be willing to wait, wait, and wait for maybe months ….
You talk about a show that would be dull — and who would want to watch that???? And even better …. what network or tv station would even put that on its’ channel??? NO way — unless they actually had photographic evidence of one – or even trapped one, which seems to be almost impossible to even think about ..

That’s why those 2 shows I mentioned before are made the way they are – just for entertainment …. Even when people knew wrestling was staged – they still watched it … and even went to arenas and paid to watch it … Because it was … entertainment.

  5. The idea of this show is an awesome thought of hunting the unknown and the belief of undiscovered creatures and all the folklore we have herd growing up in the woods and mountains of Appalachia and blue ridge mountains of va nc smokey moutians of tennessee all up and down the eastern parts of the u.s. If you’re going to do this make it real there are real people with real accounts go to real hot spots deep in the woods make camp for 45 to 60 day do real research video real wildlife you can’t go in the woods beside a farm for 2 or 3 days get drunk cuss and laugh and expect to catch real evidence make a real out post supplied with food and water take plenty of camera’s audio & video equipment plenty of camouflage give it a real try you maybe surprised what’s really deep in the woods contact me by email if you truly want to go on a real expedition it will be like going to war with real hunters and trackers

  6. Very fun to watch loose all the cussing so I can watch with my daughter we all know the show is fake but fun how could you hunt anything making the noise theses guys make what a joke

    • These guys are plain ole stupid out-of-control idiots that give rednecks, hillbillies, and real hunters a bad name. Just wasted 30 minutes of my life watching them hunt “yahoo”! The camera men must be insane to be in the same county with these gun totting jerks. But I guess they are smart enough to get a show and suck money out of networks brave enough to air it. Gotta give them 1 star for that. I meant -1 star.

  7. Great story Steve…. I grew up in the mountains, never seen one and but still “believe.” My husband I enjoy the show and hubby’s clarification of the show is same as Mr. Littlefoot “ For the Sake of Entertainment.” “Wild Bill” is as wild can be, Buck has a funny way of falling every episode, and the rest help each other finish sentences. Definitely better then “Finding Bigfoot.”

    • I too have grandkids and I feel as you do. The characters on this show are trying to portray their selves as rugged mountain men, and they feel they enhance their selves by using profanity. Compared to some movies and cable shows their profanity is “mild”…. Nonetheless, we as concerned grandparents would like to shield our grandkids from hearing such words. — But, you know what? Sooner or later they will hear it from their friends or other people down the line…. I do not know one single person (no matter how “religious”) that have not been exposed to such words — or have at one time or another used these words.
I am not advocating watching shows that use a lot of profanity — but when these “words” come up, we should be ready to explain to our g-kids that they are “disgusting” and “coarse” and are used by some people when they are excited, mad, and not really thinking in a decent matter and they are out of control — if we don’t … their friends will “teach” them that these words are “cool” and “neat” and when they use them they “are being like grownups!”
It is better we teach them that these are disgusting words before someone else teaches them that such words are “cool” to use — but if we can avoid exposing them to such shows that use disgusting words we should – at the same time if they do come up, we should be ready to explain that such words are not “cool” – but are used without thinking in excitement, fear, and other stressful situations.
Just as we should teach our g-kids not to be ready to fight when eventually someone says something out of the way to them … or wrongs them in some way … that “keeping their cool” is important to be able to survive in this world.

  8. I am going to try to do a little public service here; It appears that some parts of this scientific show “Mountain Monsters” is a little too hard for some viewers to understand. So, I will try to give a more down to earth explanation of Season 3 – Episode 2.
Trapper and the AIMS team are going to Putnam County,WV to try and capture a bloodsucking animal called a chupacabra. This critter has been eluding Trapper since 1990 when he spotted it in Costa Rica (a little south of Beckley, WV).
Willy builds a trap (which looks like a brand new s***house in the woods) and after a few adventures in the woods, the AIMS team FNALLY catches 2 of these critters [before this, the AIMS team had succeeded in only catching a big Hog]. As the team is celebrating their triumph; of all things, a BIGOOT sneaks in behind the trap and busts out his 2 bloodsucking dastardly buddies … because BigFoot has been hanging with them and getting lots of free leftovers after the blood-sucking is all over with.
So after this near triumph/disaster; it is off to Kentucky to find more Bigfoots, build more traps, and the heck with those blood-sucking critters!!!

  9. If you have watched at least 2 of these shows and do not understand what it’s all about, then do not read anymore of this reply because you either won’t believe it or it will mess up your fun watching this show.
My wife and I watch the show because it is entertaining and funny – and because we have relatives in WV and are familiar with some parts of the state. None of our relatives even remotely look like or talk like the sterotyped ‘Mountain Men’ that are on this show.
This show is a 21st century update of 1950-1980’s Professional Wrestling which was very popular on TV during that time. It’s not that it’s completely fake — there are sightings of mysterious things that are reported by hunters and people in remote areas … just like professional wrestlers really got injured when enraged audience members attacked them or when their ‘stunts’ went wrong. If this show just showed ‘investigations’ of sightings – it would turn into a dull slow-paced show like “Bigfoot Hunters” is on another network. The appeal of this show is the interaction of the characters to each other while almost trapping another monster each week. Our favorite of course is the character called ‘Wild Bill’ and probably is the favorite of everyone who regularly watches this show.
If the show ever runs out of monsters to ‘catch’ — it could start trapping ‘Mountain UFO’s’. Of course Willy would have to switch over from making elaborate wood/junk-piece type traps and switch over to high-tech electronic traps made specifically for ‘catching’ inter-dimensional critters after sneaking up on their landed crafts each week in the Appalachian backwoods areas.

    • If you are in ‘Fantasy Mode’ while watching this show – Trapper found a hidden nest the ‘Midnight Whistler’ [Bigfoot] was using for a makeshift bedroom/shelter.
In the real world he “discovered” a structure the crew of this show had obviously put together sometime earlier.

    • Yes I would love to know what he found, now I’m watching season 3 episode 2 and nothing about it. Now they are pis sing me off.

      • You have to pay very close attention to the show while it is on. There is a lot of educational complicated information being given out in the dialogue. If you are still mystified after watching the show; the same show is repeated 2 hours after the original showing…. This will give you a chance to pick up important details you missed the first time…. Now to Season 3 – Episode 1 …….
Trapper and the AIMS crew ” FOUND” a nest where the Bigfoot (Midnight Whistler) was using for shelter —- proving without a doubt the existence of this particular creature!!!!

          • The AIMS team found the living quarters of an eight-foot tall bipedal creature known to most people as “Bigfoot”. This particular species of a Bigfoot is known as “The Midnight Whistler”. They didn’t succeed in trapping him – whereupon if they had – it would have been the proof the scientific community is seeking after, to finally legitimize the existence of these creatures…. The AIMS team is headed back to Kentucky in next week’s show, to attempt the incarceration of another Bigfoot-like creature, to convince the doubting scientificos and the general out of touch naive public, the validity of their unheralded efforts.

        • Also, the last part of the show where Trapper is supposedly digging in a Bigfoot burial ground is just a “come on”. In other words, COME ON back and watch more Mountain Monsters.
If Trapper had found absolute proof of a Bigfoot by discovering an authentic Bigfoot burial ground; It would be news everywhere — As big as say, Ford Motor Co. selling brand new Mustang GT’s for a book of food stamps!!!

          • So it’s all a fraud? They staged the footprints and the Thurmal images and every thing else, I love the guys and the show but to led people down a wrong path is not a good thing.

  10. Mountain Monsters is a show I watch with my grandchildren. It’s almost like family night. Whether they are real or not we believe they could be and like the suspense. Last show last year was really good-glad Buck is okay. We will be tuned in on Saturday night!

  11. They had said that it was not a rope on the goat but a piece of intestine in one of their uncut episodes.

  12. I like to watch it. But what pisses me off is when you set things up. And it is a bunch of bull—–. I remember on episode I was watching about the wolf and a goat was in a barn above bucks head and one time he looks up it not there (the goat) and he looks again and here comes down the goat with a rope around it and it falls and you see the rope being pulled because it is tight. Some of us are not stupid so GROW UP…

  13. I love Mountain monsters I like what they put Buck through. And I love it when trapper puts his hands in poop it is so funny I just love this show

  14. I have seen a Bigfoot or Sasquatch in Middle Tennessee in the area of White Bluff , Dixon Tn area in 1981. I was living at a Church Camp for the summer working on the ground crew . There had been some smells ,hairy arm tearing through a cabin screen . The Counselor which this had happened to had gotten so frightened he left . Me and another groundcrew member were cleaning cabins just as a group had left earlier that day . It was dusk and the flood lights were luminating the pathways that led to the cabins .We were walking up to the furtherest cabin in the woods when I started to smell what seemed like a skunk ,but the further we walked up the path the more overbearing it had become .When all of a sudden there was the flood light shining on the pathway was blocked out all except an outline of something big . We at first thought there was someone playing a joke on us and that is when I saw a large creature covered in brownish gray hair , strong smell and was at least 9.5 foot tall .Enough to block out the light ,As I had stated it was only dusk and the features were easily identifiable. The head was was kind of to a point and it went seemed like to the shoulders .The shoulders had to have been at least 4.5 t0 5 feet wide ,long arms that went to the knees and was kind of hunched .I was about 15-20 ft from this thing . I was frozen stiff , of course I did a grunt just to see if there was a response ,this thing looked to as taken a breath and grunted loudly back to me . The other groundscrew member was extermely scared he turned and ran away , and the creature watched him run off . I then realized that this was not someone playing a joke., but an unknown actual biped. I turned and yelled and ran back down the path toward the little foot bridge we had crossed , but jumped across the creek .. I had only heard about thes things at that time in the Northwest not in Tennessee.Ever since then I have looked for the things when I can . On a positive note there were large footprints around the cabin that had the screen torn with hair that was very pungent smell. As well as additional footprints where we had seen the creature . I know these things are real .I want to find one and prove to all the skeptics that they are all incorrect about their statements of no such creature. Thank you you can reach me if needed at 423-440-3138.Keep up the good work .

    • Cool story but the problem with the show is that they give you no answers they always get something in their trap but never film it but they do get thermal pics remember the bear that they lung shot …
