Amazon greenlights full seasons of “The Man in the High Castle,” other original series

After becoming Amazon’s most-watched pilot ever back in January, the original series The Man in the High Castle has been extended to a full season, Amazon announced today. The drama is based on Philip K. Dick’s Hugo Award-winning 1962 alternate-history novel set in a world where the Axis powers of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan won World War II and have split much of the world, including the United States, between them.

Amazon’s development process allows customers to provide feedback on pilots they want to see turned into series. So far, Amazon has greenlit 13 series, including Transparent, which comes back for Season 2 later this year.

Among the other original series besides The Man in the High Castle that have been greenlit for full seasons are:

Mad Dogs — Hourlong dark comedy drama based on the hit UK series that follows the reunion of a group of underachieving forty-something friends — a mixture of single, married and recently divorced, all seemingly at crossroads in their lives.

The New Yorker Presents — A docu-series based on the award-winning magazine, with new segments that come from noted filmmakers, star talent and New Yorker writers.

Just Add Magic — A show for children ages 6-11, based on Cindy Callaghan’s book of the same name. The story centers on Kelly Quinn and her two BFF’s, Darbie and Hannah, who stumble upon her grandmother’s mysterious cookbook in the attic and discover it has some interesting recipes.

The Stinky & Dirty Show — Geared toward preschool age children, this series is based on the I Stink! book series by Kate and Jim McMullan. The Stinky & Dirty Show follows the adventures and mishaps faced by best friends and unlikely heroes, Stinky the garbage truck and Dirty, the backhoe loader.

Amazon says these new shows will premiere exclusively to Prime members in the U.S., U.K. and Germany later this year and in 2016. Amazon Original Series are available for Prime members to stream through the Amazon Instant Video app for TVs, connected devices and mobile devices, or online at Amazon.com/originals, at no additional cost to their membership. Customers who are not already a Prime member can sign up for a free trial at www.amazon.com/prime.
