Ovation is premiering a new series built on encouraging Americans to explore America’s arts scenes. From downtown galleries to creative hangouts, American Canvas visits a new town each week where host Dave Holmes (MTV, Reno 911) discovers music, dance, food, architecture, theater, and more. The series allows viewers to explore attractions that may be lesser-in popularity, but not lesser-in-importance. In the three-episode series, Holmes travels to historic and creative communities in San Francisco, Austin and Miami and digs around and find really cool interesting stuff.

The show is kind of like when you have guest come to visit and you get to look at your hometown as a tourist. Once you look beyond the macro-tourism sites that a city boasts, you can really start to discover the smaller, more intimate locations and people of cultural significance. If Alcatraz and Cable Cars are San Fransisco’s broad strokes, then BANDALOOP and the poignant art exhibition from artist Ai Weiwei inside Acatraz’s walls are the details painted with a fine brush.
It’s one thing to head out an explore the world, but it’s something truly fascinating to explore off the beaten path in your own backyard.
