“Lip Sync Battle” – New Series Inspired By Jimmy Fallon Segment

Jimmy Fallon’s popular musical sketch gets expanded into Lip Sync Battle, Spike’s new series where celebrities battle head-to-head in epic lip-syncing showdowns.

The proud owners of the best jobs ever: LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen

Each week, celebrities like Fallon, Dwayne Johnson and John Legend select famous songs and present dynamic lip-syncing interpretations using props, costumes and special guests. Props! Costumes! Guests! I could lip Sync “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music right now.

LL Cool J hosts the non-vocalized competition and the rapper/actor admits, “I’m a big fan of these battles, but this show is going to bring it to a whole new level.” Model Chrissy Teigen adds her insight as the show’s color commentator. I’m not sure how hard Teigen’s job really is, basically she has to stand there and say, “That was awesome!!!” over an over again while standing behind a bar, but if Spike wants to pay her to do that, I’m not gonna hate because she won the generic lottery and the occupational lottery. Lucky.

Stephen Merchant, so much is so wrong, — and yet so right — in this picture.

As the end of two rounds of intense, but strangely silent competition (j/k, it won’t be silent), the show’s studio audience selects each episode’s victor and awards ultimate bragging rights and a coveted championship belt. I mean the belt’s gotta be pretty amazing to get Stephen Merchant to dress like this -> right?

As soon as Spike filmed the show’s first 8 episodes in New York and showcased the lip syncing skills of many of the biggest names in entertainment including Jimmy Fallon, Dwayne Johnson, Anna Kendrick, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, John Krasinski, Meghan Trainor and Common, Spike saw that it had a hit on its hands.

The network picked up the series for more episodes and quickly filmed eight L.A. battles with celebs including Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Justin Bieber, Queen Latifah, Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Mike Tyson, and Terry Crews.

I know you’re digging the image of John Legend dressed as M.C. Hammer, and I nearly wept when I caught a sneak peek of “U Can’t Touch This” becauce ti is that Legend-ary! Here’s a glimpse.

I always considered Chrissy Teigen a lucky lady because she was married to John Legend, but now … I just bow down at her luck. I wonder if they let him keep that yellow jacket.
