At The CW’s executive session at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour today, the network announced that Matt Ryan, late of NBC’s Constantine, will be reprising his role of John Constantine in a one-shot episode of Arrow (the fifth episode of the hit show’s upcoming fourth season, called “Haunted”). Both Constantine and Green Arrow are DC properties (Constantine from the book Hellblazer), and this crossover should give some amount of satisfaction to the fans who were dismayed when NBC pulled the plug on Constantine.
Also of note, The CW is developing a series based on the hit romantic film The Notebook, with the input of original author Nicholas Sparks. While the pilot for the series is not yet complete, CW president Mark Pedowitz says that he does not think at this point that the older couple would be featured in the show (probably not surprising, given the CW’s demo, although the older couple probably touched the hearts of more audience members than they may realize). The series will be set after World War II.
In other CW superhero series news, the network also released the very cool image just below, which juxtaposes the original DC Comic “Flash of Two Worlds,” on the left, with a re-creation, on the right, of The Flash star Grant Gustin as The Flash and Teddy Sears as Jay Garrick. If you recall the Season 1 finale of The Flash, Jay Garrick’s Golden Age Flash helmet came out through a wormhole as Barry went back in time to try to help his mother. The Flash continues to be a big hit for CW.
Also addressed was an unusual version of Little Women set in a dystopian future that it was reported CW was developing. Pedowitz did not have any details on this, continuing to say it was only a pitch. So he couldn’t even answer this question from one reporter: “What the hell?”
Regarding a CW hit already on the air, it was also announced today that Britney Spears will be guest-starring as herself in an episode of Jane the Virgin this season. Apparently, Britney is Rogelio’s “nemesis” in the world of this show.
Supernatural looks to show no sign of stopping. Pedowitz says the long-running show can continue as long as it wants, providing the numbers are there and stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles still want to do it.
