Lionsgate and ABC have found their Johnny to star in the upcoming three-hour filmed musical event, Dirty Dancing. At this time, no date for the spectacular has been announced.
Singer/dancer/actor Colt Prattes (P!nk’s music video “Try”, Rock of Ages) will be showing Baby (Abigail Breslin) the time of her life as romantic lead Johnny, a charismatic, skilled dance instructor and leader of the working-class entertainment staff at a 1960’s Catskill Mountains resort. I am in a awe of this video, and the subsequent performance during the 2012 AMA’s, so I’m so pleased for this talented performer to get the attention he deserves.
Abigail Breslin (Freak Show, Scream Queens, Little Miss Sunshine) co-stars with Prattes as lead Frances “Baby” Houseman, an innocent young woman who vacations with her parents and gets swept off her feet by a handsome, working-class dance instructor.
The ABC network musical event will also star Emmy Award-winning actress Debra Messing (The Mysteries of Laura, Smash, Will & Grace) as Marjorie Houseman, Dr. Houseman’s wife and mother of Baby and Lisa.
The film was released in 1987, and starred Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze and Jerry Orbach. The film also spawned multi-platinum albums and the single “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” won the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song, as well as a Grammy for Best Duet.
What do you think of the casting of Colt Prattes in a role immortalized by Patrick Swazye?
