When we last watched Drag Race, we were left with a double elimination and a mysterious phone call to someone from RuPaul. So of course RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 8 episode 3 begins with much speculation. Victoria PorkChop Parker? Shangela? WHO DID RU CALL!?!?
Sensitive, shady mentor Ru enters the workroom, still rocking the hats. Oh, and did you know his suit was from Klein Epstein Parker and they’re made to order? Wow! I had no idea. It sounds so casual & in the midst of conversation rather than actually advertising a product. Wink.
But before we answer the question everyone has been mulling over this week, we first get a mini-challenge. The queens are asked to serve some Judge Judy couture. It’s like the prison yard challenge from season 7. They should’ve brought Bianca in as Judge Judy to yell at all the girls, like Latrice did.
And then we answer the question. And that answer is – Naysha Lopez. Sigh. It’s anti-climactic. She’s back, bitches! Yay. Yawn. Cynthia Lee Fontaine is excited. She’s so sweet.
As winner of the mini-challenge, Naomi Smalls gets to be a team leader. Not sure why she won in the first place, but I suppose Ru was being careful not giving the win to Kim Chi. Now THAT was funny. Also potentially super offensive, but that’s why I love this show. Remember, don’t complain to Ru. As a welcome back, Naysha also gets to be a team captain. Thanks for the smallpox blanket, Ru.

Apparently, even though she threatened to cold shoulder her, Acid Betty doesn’t seem to be very acidic to team leader Naysha. Thorgy and Bob are both playing Cookie in their respective scenes. Thorgy wants to win it really badly. Bob’s not really worried about it.
Ru is directing the scene, along with special guest co-director Faith Evans. We get sound effects! We get shade! We get blank stares of “uh, ok.” It’s your basic RuPaul’s Drag Race acting challenge. But both groups are actually pretty good. It’s no Shakesqueer, and that’s a good thing.
Robbie gives Naomi’s team a bunch of acting tips, and everyone seems to be appreciative. But then in the actual challenge, Robbie seems to fall flat.
In a Drag Race first, the girls will be serving the runway in roller skates. Bob’s never roller skated. Robbie is apparently really good at it. Ok, disco queen, bring it.
This weeks’ heartfelt confessional – we learn through a workroom conversation with Robbie that Thorgy’s mom died when Thorgy was 19. She’s angry that she never got to say goodbye. It’s a sweet moment between Robbie & Thorgy. You go talk it out with someone Thorgy.
Ru roller skates too! Ru roller skates too! Yay! I love it when Ru actually does something he makes the girls do. I know it’s not often, so I’ll take it where I can get it.
Naysha is the only girl that actually falls over. Even Bob the Drag Queen, who claims to have never been in skates, manages to stay upright.

Safe group
Naomi Smalls
Kim Chi (shown here because she looks fantastic. Feathers! Fun! Color!)
Naysha Lopez
Chi Chi DeVayne
High group
Thorgy Thor
Acid Betty
Bob the Drag Queen

Low group
Derrick Barry
Cynthia Lee Fontaine
Robbie Turner
Robbie – being an excuses queen on the runway! So disappointing! She couldn’t see. She didn’t have enough time to take in Ru’s notes. She was going to be Vanilla Wafer, but then they switched. Blah, blah, blah. SHUT UP ROBBIE! You ain’t helping your cause!
Quote of the week: Carson Kressley – bless her cotton socks with that runway outfit. (about Cynthia Lee Fontaine)
I wonder if standing around in the roller skates was easier on them than standing around on the runway in heels?
Bob the Drag Queen wins this week’s challenge. Up for elimination tonight is Cynthia Lee Fontaine and Robbie Turner. They are given the option to lip sync in heels or wheels.
Cynthia chooses heels. Robbie chooses wheels.
The ooohh is audible.
She should win simply for choosing the skates. Although she does break one of the lights that rim the stage. She also uses the splat pads that line the edges of the stage. It’s a purposeful fall. Neither one of them seems to really know the words to the song, but this is the best LSFYL so far this season. Clearly Robbie wins it.
So what did we learn this week, kids? When someone gives you the choice of Wheels or Heels, the answer is Wheels. Always Wheels.
What did you guys think of this week’s episode? Should someone else (cough, Derrick, cough) have been in the bottom? Let’s have a KiKi below!
It looks like you got spammed.
I was disappointed to see Cynthia Lee go home.
I loved Kim Chi’s runway look.
Oh fer crying out loud – I’ll delete the rest of them. Yeah, I really liked Cynthia Lee but there’s such strong competition this season, I figured she wouldn’t last long. And really, she was going home as soon as she said Heels.
I agree with you about Cynthia and the heels. Wheels was the way to go and unfortunately for Cynthia Robbie was really good with the roller skates.
