Tonight, two of entertainment’s biggest names come together in one of TV’s tastiest pairings. In VH1’s Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party, cooking maven Martha Stewart and rapper Snoop Dogg join forces to host a series of unforgettable soirées. We chatted with super-producer SallyAnn Salsano, who dished about the new series.
“Each week they focus on a different type of cuisine that they have chosen, each host invites over a celebrity friend and let’s say, shenanigans ensue.” Stewart isn’t a person who can open a case of PBR and put out a bowl of Cheez-Its and call it a day; so expect drool-worthy dishes. And I’ll be watching with a notebook and pen-in-hand; I learned my favorite roasted cauliflower recipe from one of Martha’s shows.
Salsano sets up each episode, dishing that Snoop and Martha “make a great cocktail to kick things off and their friends come by … they cook, they eat, they laugh, they play a few games and listen to some music and say goodnight. It sounds way more normal than it is …”
That does sound normal, but let me assure you, it’s not. Take a peek!
I’ve always had a feeling that all celebrities know each other, but prim Martha and pimpin’ Snoop Dogg seem like a stretch. A good stretch, but I can’t imagine Snoop rolling up to Martha’s Connecticut home, Turkey Hill, and asking to borrow a cup of sugar. So, how to the dynamic duo get paired together? Salsano explains, “It’s so boring hanging out with people that are just like you, at least I think so. Salsano also notes that Snoop and Martha have known each other for a few years. Who knew!?! And Salsano knows a lot about finding great on-screen chemistry; she and her 495 Productions have created TV hits including MTV’s Jersey Shore and CTM’s Party Down South.
The show promises a guest list that looks pretty delicious too; everyone from Seth Rogan to Mike Epps stops by to join the fun. And adding mega-watt stars takes the party to the next level. “It makes it even crazier,” admits Salsano. “Seth is everyone you want him to be, funny as s@#$ and totally down to earth. Oh and 50 Cent, DJ Khaled, Robin Thicke, Kathy Griffin, Rick Ross … sorry getting carried away. I can’t wait for America to watch this. It was so fun and an honor to produce … spread the word!”
At first glance, Martha and Snoop seem like a pairing much like oil and water (or like weed and caviar!). I asked Salsano why the duo works together so well, and she revealed, “They are both great people, who enjoy good food, friends, current events and laughing … did I mention laughing? I feel like their genuine friendship should send a message to everyone; it doesn’t matter where you are from or what your background is, we can all have fun and learn from each other. To quote Snoop, ‘Martha, teach me how to learn.’” From my own observation (from hours and hours of Martha-led TV), Stewart has a remarkable ease at connecting with people and possesses warmth, grace, spunk — and ability to rock a poncho — that I’ve always admired. And she’s always willing to poke a little fun at herself.
A fun night with delish drinks, tasty bites, A-list pals and Snoop and Martha — the hosts with the most — consider this your personalized invitation to a seat at TV’s hottest table.
