The Words That Built America

Directed by James Whale and starring Boris Karloff as The Monster, the Frankenstein sequel features Elsa Lanchester in the dual role of Mary Shelley and the Monster’s mate. The bride’s conical hairdo, with its white lightning-trace streaks on each side, is an iconic symbol of both the character and the film. This film is scheduled to be remade as part of Universal’s Dark Universe series. It will be directed by Academy Award winner Bill Condon.
