NBC Brings Back Iconic Game Show ‘Password’ With Host Keke Palmer

Password NBC 2022 NBCUniversal

Since its original incarnation that ran from 1961-67, and continuing through a 1971-75 revival and ensuing offshoots (like Password Plus, Super Password and Million Dollar Password) that have aired across subsequent decades, Password has been one of television’s most beloved and iconic game shows.

The game’s simple format — a celebrity player and a contestant each try to convey mystery words to each other using only single-word clues (that are not the answer word itself) — has been part of the appeal. Notable hosts and guest stars over the years have also been part of the fun over the years, particularly original host Allen Ludden and his wife, Betty White, who was a frequent face on the show as a celebrity contestant in dozens of episodes between 1961-75.

NBC is bringing Password back in a new version hosted by actress Keke Palmer that kicks off with a two-night premiere event Aug. 9 at 10pm ET/PT and Aug. 10 at 9pm ET/PT. There will also be new episodes Tuesday and Wednesday Aug. 16-17, before the series settles into its Tuesday-only slot starting Aug. 23.

Jimmy Fallon, who introduced new generations of fans to the classic game on both Late Night and The Tonight Show, is an executive producer and one member of the two celebrity/contestant duos who will face off in two games during each of the eight hourlong episodes to win cash prizes. The premiere features Fallon and Jon Hamm competing; other celebrity guests will include Yvette Nicole Brown, Tony Hale, Chelsea Handler, Heidi Klum, Joel McHale, Chrissy Metz, Martin Short, J.B. Smoove and Meghan Trainor. The initial season will also feature legacy contestants from 1980s versions of the game show.

Befitting White’s longtime legacy as Password’s greatest player, the premiere of this revival will be dedicated to the legend, who passed away late last year. The initial season will conclude with a special episode featuring an all-celebrity lineup playing for charity.

  1. The show is a blast to watch. Jimmy Fallon is a great player and obviously loves the game. I love the host. She adds to the show with her outgoing and happy personality. I love the old show but this is a great update with an added element of fun.

  2. The celebs are not serious enough. So disrespectful. They are forgetting that the contestants are there to try and win some money.

  3. Nothing more than a stupid acting comedy show. Unprofessional. Seems like the celebrities want attention. Ridiculous. I’m running off.

    • Show would be better without Jimmy Kimmel. Likes to take over show and it’s not enjoyable to watch. I like him just not on this show. He acts likes a child and cannot stay in his seat. I can’t enjoy because of all the jumping around.

  4. Trying to enjoy the show Password but the host Keke is too obnoxious. Jimmy Fallon is great as always. Too much goofing around, it’s distracting at times to watch with host. But I’m trying…

  5. Love, love the new “Password” Keke Palmer and Jimmy Fallon make this show fun. Guests and contestants have been great. Thank you for making me smile.

  6. I think the show is awful…most of the new shows have become “over the top”…causes me more stress, from the yelling and jumping around, than the relaxation I used to get from trying to figure out the answers…I bet a lot of the old hosts are rolling over in their graves..”CLASS” has been removed from so many tv shows these days…Do we really need someone mouthing the word “F…” during an 8pm show where children might be watching??

  7. Keke and Jimmy are fine. It’s the “too-bubbly” contestants they think will be more interesting, especially the ones that scream, that bothers me.

  8. The people leaving negative reviews are crazy this is a great password even better or as good as the original keep it going very entertaining

  9. I agree this is over the top. Jimmy Fallon is the worst of it. Too much over exaggerating. Preferred the original with a little more. Little is the key word. I love KeKe

    • The game Password I don’t like to watch cause Keke never cheers for the white contestants. If you notice she always cheers for the black contestant.

  10. Ridiculous over the top, it’s like watching a bunch of hyperactive teens making a video for their youtube channel, playing the game is the last thing on their mind.

  11. I don’t like the new show it is not as good as the old show, Get rid of the host and the know the rules why are they keeping saying them over and over . They try to be to funny and end up looking stupid make it like the old show love me Alan did.

  12. Do not like Keke. She is so loud and spoils the game. Would like another host. Jimmy Fallon is so arrogant. Like the show but not with Fallon and Keke. Fallon is the producer so guess have to put up with him

  13. Totally agree with Paula. Meme and Jimmy are too ego centric. This was a favorite game show of mine back in the day. Kemerovo and Jimmy overacting, hyperactive behavior makes a joke out of the game. Last week’s guest celebrity, Meghan Trainer’s behavior was also over the top. Makes me not want to watch.

  14. I would like to see a calm host or hostess like Ludden or White. This new host “Keke” is too over the top. Jimmie Fallon takes over the show. It’s the Keke – Fallon show!
