What’s Your Sign? Meet The AstroTwins, the ‘Cosmic Love’ Astrologers

Cosmic Love Prime Video Prime Video

Think The Bachelor meets astrology for this one-of-a-kind social experiment. In Prime Video‘s Cosmic Love (premiering Aug. 12), four individuals attempt to find their perfect spouse via astrological matchmaking.

Their romantic adventure takes place at a retreat where they will mingle, match, date, eliminate and eventually make the biggest decision of their lives … will they marry their match based solely on their astrology? The show’s astrologers are bestselling authors Ophira and Tali Edut (The AstroTwins), who guide these singles throughout the season by way of the mysterious Astro Chamber (voiced by Cree Summer). Here the AstroTwins answer a few of our questions.

What was the first time you remember someone telling you about your zodiac sign and what your initial thought about it? What did you originally want to study when you were young?
Ophira: Our interest in astrology, believe it or not, began with a paper route! At age 11 we had an after-school job delivering The Detroit News. For two years, we would have to open the papers to put coupon circulars inside, and when we did, we’d always open to the page with the comics and the horoscopes. That started our curiosity. We both wanted to be artists and did end up going to art and design school at the University of Michigan.
Tali: While there, Ophira’s boyfriend gifted her a printed astrology chart, which was a 30-page bound document with all this mind-blowing information. We were shocked that this computerized chart could know so much about us, so we found some software (this was in the early 1990s) and started doing all of our friends’ charts to practice and learn.

Fast forwarding to today, could you tell us how you will be guiding singles in Cosmic Love? How often are you coaching?
Tali: The premise of Cosmic Love was a fascinating twist because we did most of our work from behind the scenes. We looked through over 100 casting tapes, pored over birth charts and did extensive matchmaking for the show. We built out special missions for the cast, particularly for the four “elements” (our main cast members Connor, Noel, Maria and Phoebe), to help them put their astrological chart into practice one planet and point at a time. But during the filming we interacted with them through an earpiece and a gigantic special-effects orb in a room called the Astro Chamber. It was part of the experiment to keep a sense of mystery and watch astrology come alive through how they chose to follow — or not follow! — our advice. They’d come in one by one to get a reading and a mission, and to ask us questions about their matches as new ones were revealed throughout the show. You’ll see us on-camera in a special appearance in one episode. Then you can binge and learn all about the astrology behind Cosmic Love in each episode with special X-ray videos we created for Prime Video.

How do you help the nonbelievers (if that’s what you call them) on understanding and benefitting from astrology?
Ophira: We like to say that astrology isn’t a belief system. Rather it’s a tool, like a calculator or a weather forecast, to show you where the stars are positioned relative to where you are on Earth at the moment, and what that means. All human beings are born with free will. But just as you use a GPS or a map in your car, or read instructions before operating an appliance, astrology can provide you with a shortcut, greater clarity or an overall better experience. It’s not for everyone, but don’t knock it till you try it! Do your full birth chart (you can do it for free at AstroStyle.com) and learn where every planet was when you were born. Your mind might just be blown, as mine was!

What’s the biggest change/improvement you made in your own lives by applying your practices?
Tali:
When we first started learning astrology we were skeptical but intrigued. We started experimenting with picking important dates based on our charts, from scheduling meetings to planning important events, to even looking back at life events and being amazed at how they lined up with the stars. That validation further convinced us that there was something to this ancient system. So now we check the chart for every major moment before we set a date in stone!
Ophira: Another big way astrology has helped me is with motherhood. Parenting is so confusing and overwhelming, and astrology showed me that kids actually do come with “instructions.” It helped me so much raising my Leo stepdaughter Clementine and my Libra daughter Cybele. I’m able to let them be who THEY are, rather than trying to mold them into mini-me’s. We even ended up writing a book called Momstrology to help others understand that your kid isn’t meant to be a chip off the old block (well, maybe if they’re a Capricorn), but rather, to follow their own soul’s directive, which can be found in their birth chart.

If you were able to pick your own zodiac sign, what would you want and why?
Tali: We are Sagittarius (born December 2), which is the sign of luck, abundance and positivity. Feeling pretty content with what we got!
Ophira: Every now and then, I admit to having Aries and Gemini envy. They have a certain confidence and stage presence that’s pretty awe-inspiring. Not to be a planetary Pollyanna, but there’s something to admire about every sign.

How heavy do your consultations weigh on you, knowing people are making some life-changing decisions based on your guidance? That’s a lot of pressure!
Tali: You’re so right — it certainly can be! Even nearly 30 years into reading charts, we still get a little nervous before offering guidance. But it’s all about your intention as an astrologer: Do you want to help someone or prey on their insecurities? We follow the Hippocratic Oath of “do no harm,” because we know that people are in a vulnerable place, trusting us to share something that they may not even know yet.
Ophira: When astrology is delivered with love and honesty, it brings great comfort and relief. People feel seen, validated and acknowledged in a way they may never have. Astrology gives us all permission to be the messy sum of our parts, the freedom to be these unique and complex beings instead of a picture of perfection. Everyone knows that’s not real, but we all play the game anyhow. We have great compassion for how challenging it is to be human — and our mission is always that the person walks away feeling inspired and lighter!
