“That’s a big part of the show. It’s inspiration,” Hall says. “The best of who I am is because I’ve been inspired by others to get up when I was down, to try things that were out of my comfort zone, and to try to live the best life that I can possibly live.”
Throughout September, Tamron Hall celebrates “Wildest Dreams,” and will make some of them come true — especially for two lucky fans who get to join the host on a trip to see Usher perform in Las Vegas.

On Friday, Sept. 16, the show will celebrate Hall’s birthday with Tamron’s Golden Comedy Hour, featuring comedians Tony Rock, Zarna Garg and Corey Holcomb. And one Tam Fam member will win a chance to perform stand-up on national TV.
Hall joined us for this edition of our “5 Questions.”
1. What’s been your strangest or most interesting fan encounter?
It is very humbling when you run into people who say they’ve named their child after you. I’ve had that happen a couple of times, and it’s awe-inspiring. “Wait a minute, you named your kid after me? Do I have to pay for the kid to go to college now?”
2. Can you tell us about a time you were starstruck?
The first time I met Prince. Full disclosure: He’d come to pick me up, the very first time I saw him. He had arranged to pick me up, and I opened the door of the car and he was sitting there. I could not believe that Prince was picking me up.
3. What’s a movie that you can watch over and over again?
I’m a vintage kid. The original Car Wash I could watch over and over. I could also watch Fame and Flashdance over and over. I could watch Footloose over and over. You clearly see I’m trapped in one specific time period of life.
4. What’s your favorite sports team?
The Dallas Cowboys. America’s favorite sports team. The world’s favorite sports team. I’m a Texas gal.
5. What’s a job you had before your career in journalism and showbiz?
My very first job at Toys R Us, I worked the plush aisle, aka the stuffed animal aisle. I worked my way up to cashier. I was underage and I got the job anyway. I filled out the application and put a fake age because I really wanted to work. It was near a mall, back when people really loved going to malls. I worked the plush aisle, and I arranged and dusted stuffed animals for children around Texas. It’s like heaven, right? It was next to the candy aisle, so it was win-win.
Tamron is the best. If I was young enough to have a child, I’d name her Tamron too
