Catch a Classic!

Enjoy a nice variety of creature features, starring monsters large and small, with tonight’s six-film lineup that continues into tomorrow morning. It starts with Creature From the Black Lagoon (1954), the classic that introduced the Gill-man as the last of the great old-school Universal monsters. Next, The Blob (1958) stars 28-year-old Steve McQueen as a teenager who is one of the townspeople terrorized by the gelatinous and carnivorous title creature. Following that is Godzilla (1954), the original Japanese production that introduced the King of the Monsters. Moving into late night/early morning, the lineup features It Came From Beneath the Sea (1955), with the “it” being a gigantic octopus brought to life by special effects wizard Ray Harryhausen; The Wolf Man (1941), featuring another beloved Universal monster, this one played by Lon Chaney Jr. in both his human and animal forms; and King Kong (1933), one of the earliest entries in, and still among the best of, the giant-monster-on-the-loose subgenre of creature feature.

Also released posthumously was tonight’s second Lee film, which is making its TCM premiere: Game of Death (1978).
