Available Wednesday, Feb. 21, on Apple TV+, compelling psychological thriller Constellation takes us to the cosmos and back as astronaut Jo (Noomi Rapace) survives a disaster onboard the International Space Station, only to return to a life she no longer recognizes. Part spooky sci-fi thriller, part international cultural hodgepodge, the show excels at both story and character, helped by an amazing cast.

Newcomer twin child actresses Davina and Rosie Coleman are especially impressive, and Jonathan Banks does a stellar job costarring as a former astronaut and Nobel Prize-winning scientist Henry — a far cry from his role as Breaking Bad professional fixer Mike Ehrmantrout.

“I’ve known Jonathan for a very long time. I’ve worked with him a lot,” said Michelle MacLaren, director of this new series, who was also an executive producer on Breaking Bad. “I know how talented he is, and I thought this would be a really great role for him, different from anything that he’s ever done. I think he had a really good time playing it. And then the other astronauts, our casting people brought them in from all over the place. Israel, France, England. We spent a lot of time finding everybody.”

Because much of this takes place inside a space station, the show was uniquely challenging to make, but undoubtedly well researched. “We had several different consultants. One of them was Scott Kelly, the astronaut,” she added. “I said, ‘How would you secure a body to do surgery?’ And Scott said, ‘Duct tape. We use duct tape for everything.’ Now I know way more about the International Space Station than I ever thought that I would. I think if I jetted up there right now, I could probably find my way around.” Space and science notwithstanding, the mystery unfolding on Earth alone will keep you at the edge of your seat!
