Can You Feel the Beat: The Lisa Lisa Story

This is going to be the year for Lisa Lisa (formerly Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam) with her new Lifetime biopic, a 40th anniversary tour and an autobiography in the works. The legendary songstress rose to fame in the 1980s with hits like “Lost in Emotion” and “Can You Feel the Beat.” The film tells the story of Lisa Velez as a 15-year-old Puerto Rican girl from Hell’s Kitchen who never gave up on her dreams. As a teen, Velez endured sexism and racism and hid her breast cancer diagnosis to become the first Latina artist to hit multiple Billboard charts. Velez serves as executive producer and stars as her mother in the film. “I have to say that all of that stress and work ethic that I went through made me who I am today. I don’t regret going through any of it,” she shares. Her story is filled with inspiration and warmth.

31 Days of Oscar 2025 Begins

Turner Classic Movies is again airing its popular annual event, 31 Days of Oscar, beginning today and running until the day after this year’s Academy Awards ceremony, which airs live March 2 on ABC. The network continues to get fun and creative with how it presents its 31 Days of Oscar lineup each year. For 2025, each daytime will be scheduled with standard lineups of movies and/or stars who won or were nominated for Oscars in a particular category. All titles airing in primetime, though, will feature nominees or winners in an acting category where they played a character type highlighted on that evening. For example, this evening’s lineup is themed around actors who were nominated or won for playing … actors. Among those titles are All About Eve (1950; Best Actress nominees Bette Davis and Anne Baxter), Singin’ in the Rain (1952; Best Supporting Actress nominee Jean Hagen) and A Star Is Born (1937; Best Actor nominee Fredric March and Best Actress nominee Janet Gaynor). Leading into this themed block, in the morning and afternoon, are films that were nominated for or won Best Picture, including The Great Dictator (1940), 12 Angry Men (1957) and In the Heat of the Night (1967), among others.

This Swedish mystery drama is based on two novels by Viveca Sten — Hidden in Snow and Hidden in the Shadows — from her book series titled The Åre Murders. Set in the Swedish town of the title, it follows police officer Hanna Ahlander (Carla Sehn), who has been suspended from her job in Stockholm, dumped by her partner and now living in her sister’s vacation home in Åre. When a young woman goes missing, Hanna can’t help but start investigating the case, and local officer Daniel Lindskog (Kardo Razzazi) reluctantly accepts her help.
