‘Good Cop/Bad Cop’ Brings Crime and Levity to The CW

In this comedic crime procedural set in small-town Washington, estranged siblings Lou (Leighton Meester) and Henry (Luke Cook) are suddenly thrown together as partners by their father (Clancy Brown), the chief of police. Complicating things — but adding a good dose of humor — is that Henry is a bit of an oddball; he’s hyperintelligent but lacking in social awareness.

“Henry is so refreshing because of his bluntness and speaking his mind and there being no sensitivity about anything,” says Aussie actor Cook about his character. “Obviously that’s not a great thing all the time, but it is refreshing and necessary, especially when you think about a detective who needs to figure things out. My favorite thing about Henry is he’s always thinking two steps ahead of everybody and he will step on anybody’s toes in order to figure out the truth.”

All the characters are a bit quirky, which makes the underfunded police department and the crimes they solve more entertaining, but underneath it all, the somewhat dysfunctional family of three (plus their dad’s also-blunt Russian girlfriend, played by Blazey Best) is at the heart of the show.

“It’s really more about family than it is about anything else,” adds Cook. “We’re solving a crime in every episode, but it’s always about the relationship of Henry and Lou, who have really disliked each other for a long time, figuring out that they can work together really well and also upset each other the way that only siblings can do.”

Good Cop/Bad Cop airs Wednesdays at 9pm ET/PT beginning Feb. 19 on The CW.
