Starring Henry Fonda
TCM, beginning at 6am

This day is dedicated to an actor with one of the most natural and artistic acting styles in Hollywood, Henry Fonda. The day starts with Jezebel (1938), in which Julie Marsden (Bette Davis), a spoiled Southern girl, is about to lose her lover, Preston Dillard (Fonda), because of her rotten behavior. Julie pushes Preston away until her actions at a social event are too much, leading to Preston’s departure. Can Julie win him back before it is too late? Next, the tragic film The Long Night (1947) tells the tale of Joe Adams (Fonda), who barricades himself in his apartment after fatally shooting magician Maximilian (Vincent Price). As Joe is surrounded by police, he reflects on his love for Jo Ann (Barbara Bel Geddes), the object of Maximilian’s obsession. This is followed by Fort Apache (1948), in which Lt. Col. Owen Thursday (Fonda) and his daughter, Philadelphia (Shirley Temple), arrive in Arizona to command the Fort Apache outpost, where Thursday clashes with Capt. Kirby York (John Wayne) over their views of the local Apache people. Seeing Native Americans in only a negative light, Thursday is determined to defeat them for his glory, an act that has grave consequences. Next up is 1952’s Monkey Business, where Monroe held her own against another star, Ginger Rogers, as secretary Lois Laurel, the object of Dr. Barnaby Fulton’s (Cary Grant) desires, with Monroe’s sharp comedic timing matching her radiant charm.
