Robert Englund dives into “Lake Placid The Final Chapter”

When I was a kid, my grandpa used to tease me by talking about “crocogators,” some sort of fictional creatures he made up, an obvious amalgam of a crocodile and an alligator. Seeing how lucrative the crocodilian species has become for Syfy and its Saturday night original movie franchise, maybe I shouldn’t have forgotten those stories so easily. Perhaps I should yet whip out a screenplay and turn Crocogator into the next hit Syfy movie franchise (by the way, Syfy, don’t get any ideas). As it is, the network is continuing its most successful crocodile horror franchise tonight, with Lake Placid The Final […]

No shortage of bacon in Destination America’s new “United States of Bacon” series

Bacon lovers were in panic mode recently when news that there may be a world shortage of pork and bacon next year caused concerns over an impending “aporkalypse” (though some are saying that is just hogwash). In either case, bacon fans can soon also turn to their TV screens to get their fix (though it won’t be quite as tasty or aromatic an experience), because Destination America has greenlighted the series United States of Bacon, which premieres Sunday, Dec. 30, at 10pm ET. Based on an episode of this past summer’s three-part series United States of Food (with the bacon […]

“The Young and the Restless” will air its 10,000th episode on Sept. 27

In an era when long-running daytime dramas seem to be getting the axe in favor of more lifestyle-oriented series, a few stalwarts remain. Chief among these is CBS’ The Young and the Restless, which the network has wisely not been tinkering with up to this point, and for good reason — it has been the No.1-rated daytime drama for more than 23 years. As it approaches its 40th anniversary next March (it premiered March 26, 1973), The Young and the Restless will also be hitting another milestone this coming Thursday, Sept. 27, when it will air its 10,000th episode. In the […]

The beloved and influential children’s series Sesame Street begins its 43rd season Monday, Sept. 24, on PBS (check local listings for the exact time and channel in your area). While much of what has made the show so impactful and important will remain — the fun and educational elements — one change is taking place of note regarding one of its most famous characters. The little red furry monster Elmo is having his “Elmo’s World” segment replaced after 13 years. But don’t fret, Elmo fans. Elmo is simply being given a new series of 11-minute skits, called “Elmo the Musical,” […]

MTV brings original “Teen Mom” cast back for two specials

MTV announced today that it will be bringing the original Teen Mom cast back for two specials in October. These are the four young mothers who originally shared their stories in the first season of 16 and Pregnant, and then had viewers follow along as they navigated their teen years and early twenties with toddlers in tow. The final season of Teen Mom averaged 2.4 million total viewers per episode, and ranked as the No. 1 cable program among P12-34 in its time slot. Beyond just having a ratings impact, the show seems to be getting people to think, as […]

“The Mob Doctor”: “ER” meets “The Sopranos” meets “Dr. Faustus”

“The Mob Doctor” diagnosis: Cheesy, pulpy drama From its opening — where a mob goon with a screwdriver impaled in his head needs an emergency removal — to its over-the-top acting of the pilot episode’s “guest star” Michael Rappaport, and everything in between, FOX’s new series The Mob Doctor, which premieres Sept. 17 at 9pm ET/PT and airs Mondays, is an odd pastiche of mob movie-meets medical drama-meets thriller, with some offbeat humor thrown in. “It’s going to be fun to see how far we can push her,” says co-creator and co-executive producer Rob Wright. Wright is referring to the series’ […]

Mario Lopez talks to Mark Sanchez and Eva Longoria in nuvoTV series “One-On-One”

One of the busiest men in show biz, Mario Lopez, hosts yet another series with the debut of Mario Lopez: One-On-One tonight, Sept. 13, at 8pm ET/PT on nuvoTV. In the series, Lopez sits down with some of his best friends, who happen to be among the biggest Latino superstars in sports and entertainment. The press release says that Lopez “isn’t pitching softball questions,” but there probably won’t be many unhittable curves, either, we’re guessing. In tonight’s premiere episode, Lopez chats with New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, who is coming off a big game last Sunday as his team […]
