“Jersey Shore Shark Attack” kicks off Syfy’s big original movie month in June

“You’re in a different mood in the summer,” says Thomas Vitale, executive vice president, programming and original movies, Syfy. “You, as a viewer, want different things. There’s a reason that Oscar movies come out at a different time of year, and ‘popcorn’ movies come out in the summer. We really try to be cognizant of the rhythm of the viewing patterns, what viewers want when. And popcorn and the summer just seem to go together, and June is a good time to kick off the summer.” Vitale is explaining his network’s ambitious slate of original movies premiering this month — […]

“Coupons are my crack” — Season 3 of TLC’s “Extreme Couponing” coming May 28

Last year, the show was viewed by an average of 1.5 million P2+, and it’s been reported that shoppers saved $4.6 billion with coupons in 2011, $500 million more than the previous year. The game is afoot again as Season 2 of “Sherlock” premieres on PBS

It didn’t take a master detective to deduce that the BBC series Sherlock — a modern retelling of the classic Sherlock Holmes stories — would be back for a second season (or “series,” as they like to say across the pond). Its original three episodes debuted to critical and fan raves on both sides of the Atlantic, demonstrating once again that Sherlock is one of those fictional characters whom fans will not tire of. It has been estimated that Holmes is the most frequently depicted character in the history of cinema, with his first known appearance coming in a brief, […]

VH1 “Uprising” documentary looks back at L.A. Riots

It’s been 20 years since the L.A. Riots — nearly a week (April 29-May 4, 1992) of unrest, looting and rage that erupted in the wake of the acquittal of four LAPD officers (three white, one Hispanic) who were caught on videotape beating black motorist Rodney King. The riots paralyzed Los Angeles and sent racial shockwaves across the country. To recognize the anniversary of the event — which left 54 people dead and over 12,000 arrested — VH1 will premiere the documentary film Uprising: Hip Hop and the L.A. Riots at 9pm on May 1. The film is executive-produced and […]
