VOD Spotlight: “Jackass 3”

So you think your kid is crazy? In 1997, aspiring lunatic Philip John “PJ” Clapp shot himself in the chest with a .38-caliber revolver to test the strength of a bulletproof vest. But according to his mother, the man who would change his name to Johnny Knoxville was apparently crazed from early childhood. The toddler who would climb out of his playpen and throw himself on the floor “matured” into a teen who reportedly dove out of a second-floor hotel window into the pool. Jackass, the TV series and the films, worried Knoxville’s mom, Lemoyne Clapp, who says she hopes […]

VOD Spotlight: “Morning Glory”

There is a great tradition of comedies featuring ambitious young women, from the 1940 film His Girl Friday to the modern dramedy Working Girl. In Morning Glory, the comedy is set in the frequently funny world of morning news broadcasts. It stars Rachel McAdams as Becky Fuller, a talented television producer who tries to make peace between an egotistical news reporter (Harrison Ford) and a morning show host (Diane Keaton) so she can turn the falling ratings around. “If you’ve seen any clips on YouTube, you know that morning news is full of some of the most absurdly hysterical stuff […]

Jimmy Fallon gets his own Ben & Jerry’s flavor

By Jeff Pfeiffer This week, you should start seeing a new Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor in your local supermarket or Ben & Jerry’s location — Late Night Snack. Late Night Snack was inspired by a Late Night With Jimmy Fallon skit in which Fallon and his house band, The Roots, performed an original song called “Ladysmith Snack Mambazo,” about Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. The flavor has been described as “unique,” and that might be an understatement. It’s a mix of salty and sweet, which, presumably, people are looking for in a late-night snack, and features a rich […]

Razzie Awards to be held tomorrow

You won’t seem them on TV (even though they seem to be ready-made to be presented as an hourlong special for Comedy Central, Spike or IFC; and they do have a YouTube channel), the Golden Raspberry Awards (aka “Razzies”) will be having their 31st installment tomorrow at a ceremony in Hollywood. These hilarious awards — which celebrate the worst in film from the past year — are traditionally held the night before the Oscar ceremony, and are sort of the anti-Academy Awards. Each of this year’s 10 categories has five nominees (it could be argued that the Razzies should expand […]
