According to longtime Simpsons executive producer Al Jean, we almost saw a live appearance by Homer Simpson way back in 2007, as a promotion for The Simpsons Movie. But, “what we saw the time didn’t seem to have a smooth enough animation so we didn’t use it,” Jean told reporters on a conference call last week. “Now, it’s advanced to the point where we think we can do three minutes of the show.” Jean is referring to tonight’s episode of The Simpsons, called “Simprovised,” which will indeed have three minutes of live Homer antics. The past few months, and seemingly out of nowhere, states like North Carolina in particular have stirred up outrage over their laws regarding transgender bathroom use. This week, the Obama Administration weighed in on transgender bathroom usage in public schools, and colleges and universities that accept federal funds. The Departments of Justice and Education sent a joint letter to schools, directing them to provide access to suitable facilities, like bathrooms and locker rooms, that match their chosen gender identity. Fans of CBS’ excellent new series Supergirl were a bit concerned in recent weeks as talks of renewing the show went on. Fittingly, Syfy chose May the Fourth — notable for its punny connection with Star Wars Day, as in “May the Fourth Be With You” — to announce cameos for its upcoming installment in the Sharknado franchise, the equally punnily titled Sharknado: The 4th Awakens. The 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place in Brooklyn on April 8, when Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, N.W.A. and Steve Miller were welcomed into the esteemed hall.
