Sharknado 3 may be the big buzzed-about Syfy movie premiere this week, but sharks aren’t the only scary creatures hitting that network’s airwaves. That other go-to standard for animal horror movies — spiders — also make an appearance with the debut of the original film Lavalantula on July 25. NFL Network covers Brett Favre’s induction into Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame

Legendary quarterback Brett Favre is being inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame on Saturday, July 18, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and NFL Network will be on hand to cover the event. (According to the Packers’ website, the induction is a private ceremony taking place in the Lambeau Field Atrium, and it will be aired on “TundraVision” for the fans in the seating bowl; not sure if NFL Network will be airing what the fans see, or if the network has direct access to the ceremony.) Syfy debuts new late-night series “Geeks Who Drink” and “Reactor”

Thursday, July 16, Syfy is premiering two series in its late-night block: the game show Geeks Who Drink, followed by Reactor, a celebration of all things sci-fi. Geeks Who Drink, airing Thursdays at 11pm ET/PT, is hosted by Zachary Levi and is based on the pub trivia contest of the same name. Over 12 half-hour episodes, the series features two three-player teams of self-proclaimed trivia geeks who go head-to-head and shot-for-shot as they battle it out in rapid-fire quizzes that cover topics ranging from pop culture to science fiction. Nominees for the 67th Emmy Awards were announced this morning. Leading the way for the 2015 Emmy nominees among series was Game of Thrones, with 24 nominations, followed by American Horror Story: Freak Show, with 19. Syfy announces Sharknado Week 2015 schedule

We just finished up Shark Week, and now it’s time to look forward to Sharknado Week 2015! Apparently, one night cannot contain Syfy’s Sharknado franchise, as this is the second year that Syfy will devote a week to creature features leading up to the big event. This year, starting July 18 and centered around the premiere of Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! on July 22, Syfy will air several original movies primarily featuring sharks, but also some spiders, for good measure. The title of Discovery Life Channel’s new eight-part series, The Day I Almost Died, is fairly straightforward, and is about just what you might think it is: first-person accounts of people’s brushes with death. In each episode, victims recount how they found themselves, either through dumb luck (like a woman thrown out of a boat when it hits a wake) or dumb actions (like a girl who attempts to “car surf”) in deadly situations within a matter of seconds. The backlash to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant — and particularly anti-Mexico — comments over the past month continues, as last night on Twitter, Luchador and TNA X-Division champ Tigre Uno, who resides in Tijuana, Mexico, made it clear where he stands.
