2004 Indonesian tsunami remembered on NGC

Ten years ago, on Dec. 26, 2004, a tsunami devastated 14 countries and took a quarter of a million lives — the deadliest recorded tsunami in history. In 2014, Turner Networks is airing its 18th annual “24 Hours of A Christmas Story” programming event starting Christmas Eve at 8pm ET/PT and continuing until 8pm on Christmas Day. MythBusters holiday mega marathon airs on Science Channel

It’s a holiday gift for MythBusters fans — Science Channel will be airing a 9 1/2-day “holiday mega marathon” of the series starting Christmas Eve and running through the start of the New Year. All told, the marathon will feature 220 episodes over 228 hours. Syfy gets in the holiday spirit with “Christmas Icetastrophe”

If anything, Syfy’s latest original movie, Christmas Icetastrophe, will give local newscasts a new term — “icetastrophe” — to add into their weather reports, along with “snowpocalypse” or “snowmageddon.” Given the film’s title, and tagline — “Don’t Get Iced” — it is surprisingly more serious than your average Syfy flick, and with not as many ice-related puns as I was expecting (I only noticed one, in fact, when a guy yells out “Chill!” just before getting crushed by a huge ice block). The rumors about the death of “Stephen Colbert” turned out to be greatly exaggerated. Leading up to last night’s final episode of The Colbert Report, some were speculating that Colbert may take the opportunity to “kill” off the right-wing pundit persona he had successfully portrayed on the show for nine years.
