2014 MDA Show of Strength Telethon and Stand Up to Cancer lineups

Recently, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been a buzz on social media (you’ve probably seen some celebrities doing it, and possibly even your own friends and family), and along with its entertainment value, it has seemed to achieve its main goal of creating at least some increased awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and, of this writing, has collected donations amounting to over $40 million. Hopefully, people’s philanthropic moods will continue, because on the heels of this, two more established television events will be returning with their own efforts to increase awareness of, and gain monetary collections toward the […]

After being on the air for nearly 20 years, and saying goodbye to a few of its hosts (most recently, Sherri Shepherd left a few weeks back, and Barbara Walters retired earlier this summer), ABC’s daytime staple The View is reinventing itself for its upcoming season premiere on Sept. 15, according a network release. For starters, The View has a new studio at the ABC Broadcast Center, featuring a “visually stunning, contemporary state-of-the-art set designed in the round and offering the addition of an on-camera social media station allowing the hosts to interact in real time with viewers.” ABC is […]

Destination America continues paranormal programming with “Monsters Underground,” “Ghost Asylum,” “Amish Haunting”

Destination America has found itself with a hit over the past year with its series Mountain Monsters, a fairly standard entry in the “guys in the woods look for legendary monsters” sub-genre of reality programming. It’s likely that show will be back, but in the meantime, the network is trying out a couple of other new series in that vein, and, believe or not, they seem even a bit more out there than Mountain Monsters. Coming up first, on Aug. 22, is Monsters Underground (pictured above), a six-part series following Bill Brock and  his team — a military survivalist, a […]

Disney nets air “Aladdin” in remembrance of Robin Williams

One of Robin Williams’ most iconic big-screen performances came in the form of a voiceover in the 1992 Disney animated classic Aladdin. Williams memorably voiced the genie who befriended the titular hero, and while the genie told Aladdin that “you ain’t never had a friend like me,” there also ain’t never been a Disney sidekick quite like the genie that Williams brought to life. Even drawn to look like Williams, the genie was infused with the late actor’s voice and trademark hilariously manic energy that truly helped make that film unforgettable. To remember the actor, who died Monday, and the […]
