Doctor Who returns for American audiences on BBC America beginning Aug. 23 at 8pm ET. The start of a new Doctor Who season would already be cause for celebration among fans, but this one is particularly special as it begins the stint of award-winning actor Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor. After being on the air for nearly 20 years, and saying goodbye to a few of its hosts (most recently, Sherri Shepherd left a few weeks back, and Barbara Walters retired earlier this summer), ABC’s daytime staple The View is reinventing itself for its upcoming season premiere on Sept. 15, according a network release. After creating a major buzz at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards with her twerking performance alongside (and in front of) Robin Thicke (pictured), Miley Cyrus will be back at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), according to a tweet from the Official Miley Team Twitter account, which was emailed out by MTV’s PR team. Destination America has found itself with a hit over the past year with its series Mountain Monsters, a fairly standard entry in the “guys in the woods look for legendary monsters” sub-genre of reality programming. One of Robin Williams’ most iconic big-screen performances came in the form of a voiceover in the 1992 Disney animated classic Aladdin. Williams memorably voiced the genie who befriended the titular hero, and while the genie told Aladdin that “you ain’t never had a friend like me,” there also ain’t never been a Disney sidekick quite like the genie that Williams brought to life. Discovery Channel’s No. 1-rated show, Gold Rush, will be back Oct. 17 for Season 5. Before that, however, the network is debuting two specials that offer inside looks at last season. Both specials air Aug. 19 beginning at 8pm ET/PT.
